Had my pre-op visit with my regular doctor yesterday.  Since I'm over 50 it's required by my PS.  Physcial exam and EKG turned out great - today I'm getting the required bloodwork done.

I keep checking in to see how everyone else is doing and for any great words of advice for planning pre and post-op for an LBL.

Only 35 more days until I have my LBL!!

My best advice to people preparing for ps is start doing as much cardio as you can now, or increase the levels you are already doing. It makes the recovery so much easier and allows your respiratory and vascular systems to respond more favorably to the rigors of a long surgery. Also, strengthening your quads and calves will help you greatly in getting up and down after the surgery. They will have to carry more of the load since your abs won't be able to.

Also, increasing your protein prior to and after surgery really enhances the healing process. I upped mine to 150 g. a day a couple of weeks before and continued for about 3 months afterwards. Make sure you get enough calories post op. You don't want to hinder the healing process by not getting enough, even though you may not feel much like eating.

All the best to you- the 35 days are going to go by faster than what you can imagine!

I started the medical advantage vitamins 2 weeks before surgery & I do believe they helped.  Keep walking & stay as fit as you can!
