Hi - i am booked for a medial thigh lift in Oct. and we have already booked a trip 6.5 weeks later for Jamaica.

Am I cutting it close?  Should I wait til Jan. for the surgery?  Dr. says it is ok, but what if i have complications?  Just don't know what to do.  Am so anxious to have the surgery - but afraid about the trip being so close.......

Thanks,

Ruth

Really?  Wow!  3 months......
I have also just recently been told by a fellow member that the sun is a no no for about a year - so going to Jamaica that soon after probably wouldn't be a smart idea.
The more and more I think about it and talk about it, I think waiting til Jan. for the surgery would be the best plan.
Was it painful?  Long healing process for you?
Thanks,
Ruth

I still had a couple of small areas that weren't closed at 6 weeks out.  I was still using lots of ointment and gauze.  They would scab and then be red and wet, scab over again.  But they were less than dime size.

Thanks for your reply, Chris.  Looks like I will be changing the surgery date til Jan. - as I don't want to take any chances.

3 months for sex, not sure on that. I waited 3 weeks and everything was fine. I'd probably be worried about the sun on the scars w/ going on a vacation that soon after surgery. Also like the other person said I still had a few open spots where all the incisions met so going in the water and sand getting in there would be a concern for me.

Thanks, sonnieN - I was more concerned before about just not being totally healed or having some sort of probs so close to Jamaica time - not til folks started mentioning the sun, pool, sand....did all those issues even come to mind.  Being made aware of all those concerns now, I know Jan. will be surgery date.  Want to enjoy my vacation - so why chance it.

Thanks,

Ruth

Honestly...it depends on how extensive your surgery is. Mine was a medial thigh lift...and my incision goes all the way to the back of my knee. There is no way I would have been able to go on vacation at 6.5 weeks. I also had a portion that "opened up" and had to heal for another 3-4 weeks. I would wait so you can really enjoy your vacation. This is one of the most difficult surgeries to heal from because of where all the incisions are. Good luck!!

Thanks, Amanda.  Mine sounds like it will be the same - 2 incisions - 1 up by the pelvis and the other down mine inner thigh to the knee.  The plastic surgeon did tell me it was one of the most difficult surgeries to heal from and there was a 40% complication rate.  Not sure, now, why he really said it would be ok to vacation 6.5 weeks afterwards.

I am going to listen to all the great advice I have received and delay the surgery - what's another 2 months really.

Thanks for your input.

Ruth
