Journey into Plastics with Tri-Care
Hey all!
I've been following the boards for some time. I've lost a grand total of 130 pounds and have been stable for about 3 months or so. I decided to look into Plastics... using my insurance.
I have Tri-Care Prime (my hubby is Air Force) and it was easy to find a PS who accepted Tri Care, once I knew where to look. I checked the TriWest website where they let you search for providers in the network. ( http://www.triwest.com/unauth/apps/OnlineProviderDirectory/S earchProvider.aspx?id=Specialty ) After locating a PS and researching him, I went to my Primary Care Doc and asked that since my "smelly belly button" syndrome wasn't getting better could I look into plastic surgery. She wrote a letter to TriCare about chronic intertrigo and boom I was approved to have a few consults with a Plastic Surgeon.
I had to wait a month... I was on pins and needles! lol Finally had the consult and OMG sticker shock like crazy! If Tri-care covers the panni, I'll save about $2k on the procedure. So after gathering my wits about me lol and pulling myself up off the floor I asked to get a quote on several procedures so that I could have a range to choose from depending on what I could save.
My hubby saw how devistated I was and when we got home (1.5 hour drive) he called the bank to see if he could get an unsecured loan. He's so thoughtful. We were approved. I can now at least have the abdominoplasty (TT) or if things work out just right, I can get an LBL or circumferential abdominoplasty.
I'm at the wait and see part of the game now. Waiting to see if Tri Care will pay for the panni procedure and then I can "upgrade". Since my weight is evenly disbributed, so is the sag lol. A panni would leave me looking a little odd and I have to be happy with myself, so that's the reason for the "upgrade" decision.
We should here from today all the way out to June 1st-ish whether or not Tri-Care will approve. Until then I'm in hurry up and wait mode!
For those who have had an LBL what sorta clothes should I look into getting? What's a realistic first week like?
Thanks so much!

Good luck with Tricare! We live overseas in Japan right now and I asked about getting a medivac to Tripler for at least a TT and didn't hear anything back at all. My husband is deployed so I'm just self-paying for a TT and thigh lift and lipo (next week!) and then going back to Japan. I hope you can get them to approve it! I know it can be hard sometimes with them.
