Infected Mesh
I know the thought of this long surgery is freeking you out, but please think of it this way. IF you do not have the surgery the infection will get worse and you WILL die. The long surgery is your best bet to NOT die from the infection.
PLUS they are telling you the worst case senario about being hospitalized for 14 days, you could come through the surgery with no problems and go home in 2 days.
I did not have an infected hernia repair that needed to come out, but I had a colon surgery that everyone thought I would be hospitalized for 14 days but once they got in there it was not as bad as they were afraid of, and I was able to go home 2 days after surgery instead of 14 days.

Thanks for your optimism. i hope you are right but I suspect and the doctors suspect that the mesh is completely infected. 3 days in ICU on a respirator and a tube down my nose is my biggest reason for freaking out. The pain I think I can deal with but having this done and not being guaranteed success or seeing future hernias in my future is discouraging. Not sure what I am going to do..........thank you.
