Hello there...

I was just wondering why you would choose a panni over a tummy tuck? I understand sometimes insurance will cover a panni if there is a hernia, etc. but otherwise isn't a tummy tuck better? Or is there a big price difference? I am starting to look into plastics and the cost is depressing:(

I have no idea about others, but since I was self pay and would be self pay for a panni or a TT, I chose a TT.  Because there is a huge difference as to who one looks compared to the other.
There wasn't a big price difference for me but I know that others chose what their insurance will cover - they have no other option when money is involved.

I, too, think money would make the difference.  I knew a panni would not give me the look I wanted so I went for the whole thing.

I needed the anchor because I carried my weight from my breastbone through my hips. A friend carried hers almost all below her belly button. She looked great after the panni.

It depends on where your weight was and where your skin is.

When I had my consult, the plastic surgeon told me I would be happy with the results either way.  The panni was 100% covered by insurance ($15 copay) and to upgrade would have been $5,000.  I trusted her, had just the panni, and am very happy with my results.

I decided to have a tummy tuck versus a panniculectomy.  I had some muscle repair, which is not done with a panni, and had excess skin above my belly button.  I really needed more than just the panni and I was told up front that I would not be happy with the panni.  I did spend the extra money and could not be happier.  And yes, the cost can be depressing.  I held off until I had the money for the procedure.  Good luck to you!
