1) Does anyone recommend a surgeon in either the Wichita area or KC area?

2) I'm not yet at goal.  I have about 75 more pounds to lose, but I've lost about 300 and I am sick of this excess skin.  Can some of the surgery be done before you're at goal?

I'm a teacher and can only have surgery in the summers ... I am hoping to do something this summer.  My sisters and my niece have all had breast reductions and in spite of this weight loss, I think there may yet be enough breast tissue to qualify as a reduction.  (and be covered by insurance)

I know it might be best to wait until I've lost it all, but I really hate how my body looks and feels.

Your insurance may cover some of your reconstruction surgery.  You'll need to visit a PS or two for consults and take a look at your insurance coverage.

I went to Dr Sauceda for a total body make over.  It was all out of pocket though, best $$ that I've spent just for me.  The mind set is so totally different than with the weight loss.  I think sometimes we still see the fat "us" looking back but when the skin is gone, you look normal nekkid!  It's a trip.  I love walking by mirrors now.

It is not too early to look into or even have plastics.  I imagine that a lot of your remaining weight is excess skin.  Post this on your state board too.  It is essential that you choose a surgeon with great experience in working with patients after massive weight loss.  Don't be afraid to travel a few miles for quality, but I would think you could find a good surgeon in your area.  Learn the difference between a tummy tuck and a panni.  Do a lot of research.  Hang out here.  All the best  Loris

I see people having surgery all the time before they meet their goal - when they have had such a drastic weight loss.

Good luck in your journey.

By the time I am done, I will be down over 300lbs.  I had my first phase as you can see by my signature when I had lost 170lbs.  I am returning in a month from today to have my second phase done.  Dr. Sauceda is the best!  I am self pay and it didn't matter how much I had to lose or what problems I had related to the excess skin, my insurance would not pay.  I had chronic back pain from my panni.  They did not care!

I think it's a good idea to have some of the surgery prior to getting to goal, HOWEVER, you have to know that you will need a revision when you get to goal.  I knew this going in and I knew I'd have to pay for those revisions.  I was totally okay with it because my mobility has improved greatly since my first phase!
