The terms can be mind boggling at first. A book that really helped me understand many things is one my surgeon, Dr. LoMonaco, co-authored: http://www.amazon.com/Bariatric-Plastic-Surgery-Cosmetic-Wei ght/dp/1886039925/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303309632&sr=8-1
My best advice to people preparing for ps is start doing as much cardio as you can now, or increase the levels you are already doing. It makes the recovery so much easier and allows your respiratory and vascular systems to respond more favorably to the rigors of a long surgery. Also, strengthening your quads and calves will help you greatly in getting up and down after the surgery. They will have to carry more of the load since your abs won't be able to and your thighs will be healing.
Also, increasing your protein prior to and after surgery really enhances the healing process. I upped mine to 150 g. a day a couple of weeks before and continued for about 3 months afterwards. Make sure you get enough calories post op. You don't want to hinder the healing process by not getting enough, even though you may not feel much like eating.
All the best to you!
