friend me and you can see mine also!...I had mine done on March 3....I have to some more because I ahve healed more but mine turned out great.....my PS is also a Trauma/wound surgeon and he ave me a new navel and tightened my muscles..

I am very pleased because I birthed 10 kids and I have never had a flat tummy...just having the panniculectomy will give you amazing results.....I had severe back/spine pain and 3 c-sections so my tummy looked like a butt before surgery....a looooong butt..lol

FYI, Birthdaygirl, if you had a new navel and had your muscles tightened, then you didn't have a panniculectomy, you had a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. I'm glad that you are happy with your results. A panniculectomy only removes the hanging apron of skin and the results are very different. When you post this, you may be setting some people up for a major disappointment if they have this operation expecting your results.

As Laura from Vermont said behind me......My surgeon did a panniculectomy for medical reasons.....The reason why I state TT behind it is because out of his own kindness he gave me a new navel and did some muscle tightening which he does not have to contracturally do...

I apologize it is not my intention here to mislead but to inform of my full experience....My surgeon is a PS but his speciality is Trauma and wound healing...

what he told me was that my iinsurance only covers a panniculectomy but when he goes in he does "what he has to do anyway to acheive a good result both mediclly and vanity"

I hope I am clear now to all readers!

and yes, I love my result....God is good all the time!

Hi Birthdaygirl - you were very lucky that you had a generous surgeon and surgical situation where you didn't have to pay additional fees for the OR room, anesthesiologist or the additional work your surgeon did over and above the insurance payment for the panniculectomy (panni removal). I say generous because it takes a significant amount of time to make a new navel.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of consensus on this terminology which is confusing for patients - but I've seen people come back and post pictures and express disappointment because they went in to have a panniculectomy and thought they were getting a new navel and muscle tightening and maybe even a Mons lift included. And they didn't - they got what the insurance company paid for... just the removal of the apron of hanging skin.

It is very clear that you are thrilled with your results - and I'm so happy it has worked out beautifully for you - but I want to make it clear to those reading and the original poster who may only have the option of an insurance reimbursed panniculectomy that your results are not what they should expect. You had additional work that they won't unless it's an unusual situation or they pay additional money to the surgeon for more extensive surgery. BTW, I'm not trying to pick on you personally, rather I'm trying to help newbies who are considering this type of surgery.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with just having the panniculectomy - for a few lucky people that's all they need and for others it may be all they can afford and it does remove that hanging apron that causes health issues in many of us. It may also be a much needed surgery midway through the journey of someone who was super morbidly obese.

I agree with you 100%.....I don't feel picked.....my skin is a little tough...remember I birthed 10 kids now...lol

did not know what a "Mons" was til I came here to PS forum....I just know I had a vaginal/pubic area......I am assuming he fixed that too because I don't look like a man but my inner thigh baggage is now more prominent.....(saggy)....oh, well just got to live with that one

if m doc had just taken off the apron of skin that was aching my spine and back for years even before RNY that would have been more than enough!

I also want to commend you for your success without surgery...I wish I could have gone that route but God has and individual plan of success for each of us......congrats on all your progress and your DH's also!

Congratulations Skylark!  I followed Doctor McDougalls plan for 9 years.  I found him on the food and wine board back on Prodigy in 1989.  I guess that really dates me!  I have most all of his books.

My pictures are in my profile.  Like noted above, I got a new navel that you may not get.  Also, they found & repaired a hernia at the time of surgery, so while I don't think I got the full tt tightening, some work was done.

that was my intention also....I did not have a hernia and for insurance purposes it was a panniculectomy but I did get a new navel and he did some muscle work.....

Thanks Laura for clarifying...which is why I state panniculectomy/TT because some things were done that did not have to be done lie saving your navel or creating a new one!

How are you feeling these days......I finally found a good compression garment!..I am in love with flexees....and I can fit a small...yes!
