Do you need a pain pump after surgery?  If not, how is the pain controlled?  I'll be having a LBL & thigh lift w/lipo.  Thanks!

Although not all surgeons use ones like the On-Que pain pump I had, I was so thankful my surgeon gave me one. it helps you not to wake up from surgery in agony (as has happened to me with other surgeries with no pain control) and keeps it at a manageable level so your body can focus on healing, and not the trauma of PAIN.

The pain pump was removed the third day after surgery, just before I left the hospital. I had a prescription for Vicodin for after that, and I never finished it. I was on Tylenol for a few days, and then didn't really need anything. I had a lbl, butt aug., bl/ba.

Does your surgeon use the pump?

You have to pay for it, it's an extra $500, but I'm looking at having 2 surgeries.  LBL w/thigh lift & lipo first, then second is for BL/BA & arms w/lipo.  Really have never had a problem w/pain and really don't want to spend the extra $$...........but I don't want to be sorry either!

I've met with 3 plastic surgeons.  The first one uses it and advocates for it.

The 2nd and 3rd ones both said that they actually do not have much of a difference in reported pain levels in patients who they use it in and those they don't.  Both of these surgeons also stated that the REALLY inject the hell out of the muscles and surrounding areas with a pain reliever/numbing agent before stitching patients up, too.  So that might be why they don't see much difference....

The pain ball was wonderful.  I was done in January - and when the thing emptied after 3 days I started to cry. I has a lot of muscle tightening (corsetting) and aggressive lipo and breast reduction/lift and the Q-ball and my electric to stand recliner were more important to me than ANYTHING.......karen in nj

I'm having 2 different surgeries, 3 months apart.  Can you use the pain pump for both times, or can you just use it 1 time.
