Three days from LBL and with the allergies from hell
I've been fighting allergic rhinitis for two weeks now and have just one dose left of a 10-day course of Keflex. I've also had two steroid shots this past week , a short-lasting one on Wednesday followed by a longer-lasting medication yesterday (it's supposed to be effective up to three months. Even though I had the usual preop EKG done before this started up, the nurse practitioner in my doctor's office did another one yesterday. It was clear and showed no pneumonia process.
My surgeon has reassured me that we can cancel up to Monday afternoon (surgery is scheduled for Tuesday morning), and we've decided we'll wait until then to make the final call. I trust his judgement as well as that of the NP, who also said I should be good to go, but I admit that the continuing coughing and needing to blow my nose has me concerned, not just because of possible respiratory complications but also because of the discomfort factor. I'm also concerned because my surgeon said there's no need for a compression garment, and I'm thinking that if I'm coughing after being sutured all the way around that I ain't gonna be a happy camper.
What are your thoughts?

I too have chronic allergies but was lucky enough to not have a bout of them while my TT took place. I have sneezed and coughed on occasion while recovering (i am 3 wks out) and when i do its dreadfully painful!! I live in my compression garment which helps a lot!! but if i were you i would want to make sure your allergies are completely under control before surgery...if you have to wait it will be worth it!!
Good luck
I would order the garment and use it anyway...You know how hard you cough and how much sneezing you do..You're surgeon is not there with you 24/7...The garment would help instead of hurt in my opinion...Ask your surgeon if it would hurt "IF" you did wear one..?
I haven't had my surgery, but my surgeon will be putting me in one..He says it will really help with movement and the swelling..It's funny how each surgeon is so different..
Hope you get to feeling much, much better...My eldest son has terrible allergies to almost everything this time of the year...I feel for you, that's for sure...!
Get well soon and I hope all goes well and you get your surgery as planned...
