I will be same day surgery.  I have to assume that I won't feel up to changing anytime soon once I get home.

How hard is it to get up from the recliner to get to the bathroom the first couple nights.  DH has to work so I don't want to bother him if I don't have to.

I could use some advice.   Thanks!

The first night, I definitely needed help getting up. I was so foggy from the anesthesia (10 hrs.) that I wanted my dh nearby for the fist couple fo days. Once I got out of the hospital on the third day, I moved better and better almost hourly. I took it slowly and carefully.

I had a really great recovery, according to my surgeon, and I was in really good shape at the time of my surgery. That being said, I really needed my dh with me full time the first few days.

Be careful, and best wishes to you!

ETA: I didn't even address your question as to what to wear. I wore loose, drawstring sweatpants and a loose fitting top.

Thank you!  What procedure did you have done?

How long has it been and how are you feeling now?

I had a lbl, butt aug. and bl/ba last June. I feel great, am back to an even fuller workout routine (in fact I am leading an Insanity workout in the afternoons) and the scars are receding nicely. I am SO glad I had the surgery!

I had LBL/hernia repair and arm lift  with a two day post-op stay in the hospital for which I felt I really needed to get over the anesthesia. I needed help the first few days - perhaps if I didn't have an arm lift I might have been able to do it myself but I'm not sure. I have to say that it was the muscle work on the hernia that was the most painful part of the recovery and the only thing that limited my movement early on. I didn't bother with the recliner, I felt more comfortable in my own bed or couch using pillows. I got up many times the first two days (day and night) to urinate as I had been pumped full of sodium/water from the lactated ringer's solution they give you IV during surgery - after that I only got up once a night - which means by the time I got home I only had to wake DH up once a night for a few nights. BTW I could get back into bed but I had trouble getting out and maybe part of it was fear of injuring my wounds - and getting on and off the toilet was never a problem.

I wore yoga pants and a sweater to the hospital because they would be easy to pack and store in the plastic bag the hospital provides you to store your clothes. In the hospital I wore their gown and to return home I wore brand new pajamas that I bought specifically to wear post-op. It had a button down top and pull up pants in size medium which were loose enough to accommodate post-op swelling, drains and binder/compression garments. The fabric had enough body so it wasn't flimsy or see through. I wasn't there to impress anyone with my great style and I wasn't sure how easy it was going to be to change clothes post op - turns out it was a non-issue LOL. It was nice to arrive home already dressed comfortably for a nap.

Thank you Skylark for the response.  I am nervous about going right home.  I just remember how much a c-section hurt moving around.  I guess you just do what you have to do!

I guess I'll just do loose sweat pants or yoga pants and a button up loose shirt.  Your post helped a lot.  Thank you so much!

I had to be at hospital at 5:30 am......I wore pajamas and a sports bra....But because I had returned home with 1 JP drain....The nurse let me wear my hospital gown home and my robe on top of it!

comfy, lightweight clothes are easiest while you have the drains like yoga pants or pajama pants or sleepshirts

Oh, yeah, the drains!  I almost forgot.  Thanks for saying that.  Maybe I'll just wear a jersey baggy dress that I have.  Goes to my calves and I don't give hoot if I bleed on it.

When did you have surgery and what did you have done?

I had a panniculectomy done on March 3.....everything is healing nice but my new navel is giving me a lil issue with slow healing...I think i was putting too much neosporin on it and made it moist...other than that no problems....

I only had 1 JP drain and it was taken out 6 days after surgery...everyone and their surgeon's decision on how long drains are in and/or how many are different.

my next surgery will be hopefully this summer...my breast reconstruction...Good luck on your surgery....when is it?
