Tailbone Removal
I've heard that tailbone removal sometimes takes place with a LBL
I just had my tailbone removal (no LBL though) and i'm having two specific issues with it.
First issue is that I seem to malabsorb the pain meds and the pain has been quite bad. Any suggestions on pain meds so that they are efficacious? Second, I have begun to believe that the amount of inflamation is why my pain is so bad, and wondering if NSAIDS are the only solution to cutting down on the pain.... since I've had RNY they are contraindicated..... so what do I do?
Not exactly plastic surgery, but would welcome any suggestions or ideas.

Oh, Lady Lithia I wish you a speedy recovery!.....with my arthritis in my shoulder...last year I had to have a cortisone shot 2 times to calm down inflammation.....thankfully no ulcers..
What has worked for me is hot green and black tea...steeped strong and long 2-3 times a day....The anti-oxidants took the inflammation away.....
also my flexeril (10mg) muscle relaxants helped alot and percocet

My surgeon had the foresight to prescribe me muscle relaxants, and they've helped a lotl it's just taking a lot out of me. I see now why my surgeon wouldn't even do surgery until I promised to stay home from work for a full three weeks.
I'm glad that the doc doesn't have me on Percocet. I was tired of that, and am glad to be moving away from it entirely.

I have no real advice for you.. but, something to consider is taking the NSAIDs along with a PPI- this wouldnt completely eliminate the risk of ulcerformation but would help reduce it. Of course I would discuss this with your dr/bariatric surgeon first- but if it were me and I were really in pain I would take the NSAIDs. Hoping you're feeling much better very soon!!!

Thanks.... I'm consdiering discussing the PPI/NSAID use with my surgeon when I see him on Tuesday. He was alarmed to discover I was still t aking the pain meds as directed.... and when I did the math I was pretty alarmed he prescribed it the way he did. Put me REALLY close to the max amount of tylenol a person can have without permanently damaging their liver. He's altered the dosage a bit so I'm taking the same amount of pain killer but getting less tylenol. I'm also taking oxycontin though not sure how efficacious this is
I was unprepared for the pain. I thought I knew what to expect but instead of a lot of limitations on my movvements, I am actually quite active... I just have this round sphere of pain centered on my tail end. So it's good news bad news.
I have high hopes of a totally successful surgery though..... it just takes time.

I had really bad pain post plastics, and also suspected that it was malabsorbtion related. I was prescribed 1 Percocet, and after two days of it doing virtually nothing, called the doc and asked if I could take 2, she said absolutely. SO much better. That said, I don't have issues with Percocet, but I know many people don't like it.
My surgeon has said it's OK to take NSAIDS very rarely if we take a Nexium or something like that. Since it's the only thing that makes any dent in my really bad menstrual cramps, I do take it maybe once or twice every other month with the Nexium. So far, no issues.
Good luck!

Doc gave me percocet in the hospital and then inexplicably they changed over to Norco. i've had enough of Percocet as I've taken it for several years for this tailbone pain. I know it would control the pain slightly better but overall I'm glad to get away from it. But I was taking 10 mg hydrocodone every 4 hours...alone that didn't bother me so much but the amount of tyelnol mixed into those meds was a near lethal level! I hope to get my blood drawn soon to make sure I haven't damaged my liver! That in addition to 10 mg oxycontin every 12 hours was a LOT of pain meds.
I'm still taking the same amount of hydrocodone (7.5 mg every three hours) and oxycontin, but less tylenol by a third. It just seems that all my other surgeries have diminishing pain much sooner than this point. Then again, I've never had surgery on a bone before, nor had my sacrum "filed down" or other bones removed from my body. This is more profound a surgery than any of the soft-tissue stuff I've had up until now

Ugh, that really stinks. Yes, it's hard to tell what's normal, given its rather rare I imagine, not to mention all of our bodies are different and we have different threshholds for pain (though I suspect yours is quite high from all you've been through with this).
I hope you get relief one way or another - either through the right meds or just a natural turning point! Keep us posted.

Thanks! I appreciate it.
At least the pain is controlled now, the first 72 hours was about 1/2 controlled and 1/2 not, now it's totally controlled but I regret it every time I let the meds lapse.
