So..I have been reading ALL the literature on the LBL and other plastic surgeries and MAYBE I should NOT be doing that, for I'm a little more than freaked out..Maybe it's my age, and I'm thinking that my age will keep me from healing like I really should...Two years ago, I had major back surgery, and I did Amazingly well, according to my surgeon...Had little to no problems at all.
I have up to ten screws among other things..yep, I'm almost robotic..hehehe!

I was wondering if any of you "older" patients used these vitamins in my title or any similar...?
Do you think that just normal vitamins/minerals will be sufficient or am I stressing a bit too much over things..?

Those Dang literature pamphlets..                                                                                      I'm a hair pulling mess now........... thanks to them..!!

HELP...CALM MY THOUGHTS ....!!

I used the Make Me Heal vitamins for 2 weeks before surgery and for 2 mo after surgery.  I also picked up the SinnEcch for to reduce the swelling, brusing and to aid in healing.  I bought two and used one before my LBL, BL, arms & thighs, then the other set for my facelift which was 4 days later.  I'm almost 59.  I was also using Orenda Immune and O'Tropin to help get rid of toxins and to help my immunity.  I was lucky and had no complications at all.  I had a couple of small areas that took a long time to heal, scab / rescab...  But, everything looks great now and I'm 9 weeks out as of yesterday.  I did start back with Vit E after about a month with Dr Sauceda said it was ok.  My skin was very dry.

I'm 57 years young and had my hernia repair/TT 9 weeks ago. I ordered the SinnEcch on line, it costs about $40.00. Asked my PS if it was OK to take this and his opinion was that there were no studies to show that this really helps, but he had no objection if I took it. You have to start this before surgery and then more just after surgery. I didn't find it helpful in healing the bruises any faster. It contains Arnica Montana which you can buy at The Vitamin Shoppe for about $8.00 for 250 tablets. You can also get it in a topical form there. I do believe they sell it at Wal-mart too.  I was also taking Bromelin for the inflammation, but I don't really think it did much good.

He suggested using Aquaphor or Vaseline. The idea is to keep the incisions moist. Vaseline is a lot cheaper that Aquaphor. I used the Vaseline 3 X's a day. I am now using Gold Bond's Ultimate Healing cream. It contains aloe, petroleum, vitamins A,C & E. It's been working great and it's not greasy.

Main thing is to keep your protein intake high. I upped it up to about 150 gms. Protein speeds up the healing process.

I think you'll have no problem with the healing since you healed nicely the last time you had surgery. We take many vitamins to keep us healthy I think  people who don't take vitamins and up their protein heal poorly.

Good luck on you surgery. You're going to love the way you look once the swelling goes down.

Thank you, Carol...

I enjoyed reading your response. I have never been told to keep the surgery line soft, but I can see where that could be a wise thing to do.

I will be having my surgery July 21st., so I'm concerned about the HOT weather and the compression garment and all the sweat...AND my husband HATES to run the air conditioner that much..But he will just have to get over it untill I get well enough to get out of the CG, for I just know that thing is going to make me sweat and that can't be a good thing...Oh, well I guess I can think of everything in the world that Could be less than a wonderful thing...I think I have too much time on my hands...LOL

Thank you Sweetie..

I'm 55. My surgeons said to keep taking my regular vites, and to be sure to add zinc and vitamin C.

My healing has been very good, my gyny guesstimated that I was 6 months out from surgery rather than 3, and said my scars are well beyond what she'd expect.

If you're a good healer, follow your surgeon's protocol and you'll do fine.

Hi.

Im a big believer in the proper vitamins and nutrition post-plastic surgery.  They are critical to allow normal healing.  But you cannot have "a one-size fits-all" mentality.

What kind of surgery did you have and what are the typical deficits seen with that surgery ?

Are you anemic, and if so why ?

What are your body's iron stores, B12, and folate levels ?

How do you get your protein and can you increase it ?

Does your band if you have one need to be loosened ?

Is constipation a problem ?

A simple round of tests on 2 tubes of blood must bedrawn on every patient months before urgery to identify any deficiencies and begin correcting them. Next a program to provide whatever may be deficient is designed.  It takes about 30 seconds of my time to do this.

Anemia is the most   common issue I see and this can take months to correct.  Supplements for iron can be constipatiing, so that needs to be addressed.

Low protein levels in patienst stil eating for wt. loss, not maintanence is the next most common issue I see and treat.

My preference for many patients is the VitaMedica and Bariatric Advantage products.  They have high levels of the water soluble B complex that you lose quickly and need to rebuild blood cells.  Also, a lack of Vitamin E (an inhibitor of healing) is important in my opinion.

Along with vitamin recommendations, a way to increase your protein PLUS your non-protein calories must be agreed upon.  This is tough for some paients mentally and physically and I nearly always empty my band patients a week before surgery.

A lot of info I know...but it is really relevant and important to ensure the best outcome for you.
