I haven't had mine yet.  But I think they are all in the front.  There is a forum on make me heal you might be able to find additional info you need there.

I had 3 mons drains in front, two for my upper thighs, one in each arm and 1 for my left breast.  All the surgeries were done with an epidural and twilight seditation about 11 hours.  The pain was actually minimal.  The epi lasts about 30 hrs.  Then I had pain meds from the IV and then oral meds and it was fine.  I have a very low pain tolerance.

Now getting out of bed the first couple of days was tough, but got better.

I had no drains, and no issues with bruising.

It seems to be very variable (pun NOT intended, but there wasn't any better wording!

I had 2 drains on each hip for my LBL and they didn't cause me any discomfort.  I didn't take any meds for brusing so I cant help there.

With my LBL I had 4 drains and all came out on the front; the back ones get routed into the front under the skin. I had to sleep in my bed on my back in the "Lounge chair" position for the first week or so - I bought several pillows and used some others from around the house to prop up my back, under my legs and under my arms. Others buy or rent lazy boy type chairs but they aren't necessary if you don't have one.

I didn't take any medication prior to surgery and I had basically no bruising after surgery. In fact my surgeon gave me a huge list of medication (both prescription and OTC) as well as food supplements and vitamins and even garlic and ginger that I had to stop taking two weeks prior to surgery. Some of the supplements and even some protein shakes that are common to WLS patients were on that list. These are things that can interfer with clotting and healing post op.
