Hello all,

I have started to research, plastic surgery options,  I am a 49 year old male lost 245 LBS, I am on the island of Maui, I have had four consultations, and I would say I maybe more confused than when I started. I was looking @ lower body lift, tummy tuck, and male breast reduction.

Three do surgery in there own clinic. there cost are between 20000 - 26000
One does surgery @ the hospital here, his price is the cheapest 15000.
He explained everything better than anyone, I just don't get how he is this much cheaper.
My next step maybe to get a price in Mexico.

I would like any advice.

The fees for the doctor that uses the hospital is his fees only. The hospital will have their own fees.

Not necessarily... when I was given quotes I was also given the hospital and anesthesiologists fee with it.

My PS was 3k cheaper for my TT than a few other consults.  I went with him because of his price AND his work - he was an amazing surgeon.  Just look at the dr.s before and after pics to get an idea of their skill.  I do not know why he was so much cheaper - my guess is that he used to practice in Alabama (1o yrs ago) -where PS is generally cheaper than the New England area- and he kept his regular fees when he moved his practice up here...

I, too, think the cheaper one will be for his fees only.  The hospital will have a fee along with anesthesia.

I am having an extended abdominoplasty in the surgeons facility and his fee, facility fee and anesthesia is 8200.00.  If I had it in the hospital I would venture to say it would be at least 20,000 with doctor, hospital, anesthesia and other fees.

You are planing some pretty extensive stuff.  Did you decide to go with the lower body lift or the tummy tuck?  Are you planning on doing the brest reduction at the same time?

If it were me, I would have some questions about the price breakdown you were given.  I see the OR, but will you have to be overnight in the hospital?  Is that included? If not how much is it per night to be admitted?  What about Compression garments to control swelling?  Will you need them? If so,  How many will you need and will they be included or are they an extra charge?

My breakdown for just a  Circumfrential Lower Body Lift (in a surgery center not a hospital)  with an overnight stay follows:

Dr. Fee                                    10,340.00
Anesthesia and Facility fee   4,775.00
Compression Garment (2)       240.00
Overnight stay (1 night)              650.00
Total                                         16,005.00 (Tax is included in price)

as you can see the overnight stay is not included in the facility fee but is listed as an extra charge, and the compression garments (1 to wear and 1 to wash) is also included.

You might want to check these questions out and see if that changes your price quote in any significant way.  It would suck to be surprised after the fact by an extra charge for the Compression or a required overnight stay.

I have a suggestion - Kaiser in Honolulu has a program called New Venture which is open to the public.  I've had seven different procedures through this program and have been extremely happy which the care and the results.  You might consider contacting them for pricing.
