Amrs - I can't decide.....

My arms really aren't all that bad....no major batwings (just little ones).  I do have a wrinkly area that bothers me enough to prevent me from wearing anything sleeveless and I'd like that taken care of.  Thing is, I don't want scars.  Obviously I have to choose one or the other....the skin or the scars.

I think I'm afraid that the scars will be so noticeable that I'll wish I'd not have had the procedure and it'll keep me from wearing short sleeves (which I can wear now without issue).  *sigh*

I talked to a PS about doing a small arm lift....just tucking away a few inches.  He thinks it may end up looking funny.  I'm thinking of going back in to discuss this again and maybe having him draw the scar he thinks I'll end up with and me leaving it for a bit to see how I feel about it.  I think I might also have to discuss that if he thinks my scar is going to be more than say 3 inches down my arm, to just leave me be.

I wish I could peek into the future to see who they turn out if I go for it and whether I'd be happy or not.

Have you seen Tom's scars? He had a shorter incison that most have. I don't think his would be visible at all with a sleeveless shirt. It's more about scar placement that it is length. Mine are  to my elbows but they are not noticeable unless I raise my arms over my head. That doesn't happen in public very often. You can't see mine from the front or the back if my arms are at my side.

Renee,

Your arm incision looks great.  What did you use on your scars? My scars mostly ok, but there are some that keloid.  Do you have the web site for the silicon? I did attempt to use the silicon for my breast reduction but it was such a pain to maintain.  Any advice, I need something less with less maintenance

I just used polysporin ointment and Vitamin E oil and also some Bio Oil. The vitamin e oil I bought at GNC. The Bio Oil I bought at Walgreens. I think I am just one of the lucky ones that heals very well. My scars are pretty much fading away. I massaged them twice a day with those oils and ointments.

I never used the silicon sheeting but I know people that have and they have said that they seemed to work well for them. I am pretty sure CVS carries them. They can also be ordered online.

my PS says scars for skin & I would much rather have the scars then hanging skin, sometimes because of our skin we cant have the short incision,. but your scars get lighhter as time goes on. yes mine were very red then dark pink and now they are much lighter u cant see them from the front only if u r standing behind me and if I cant se it  thenit doesnt bother me. my scar goes from the top of my armpit to my elbow. when I first was going to do this I didnt think the scar would be so long but sometimes they have to go down farther to make the contour look nicer the scar is better then skin bunching up.

I wera sleveless, halter, in fact I am renewing my vows again , check out my profile pix and see me in my wedding dress from the back view ..yes u can see them from the back but not the front, but check out how good the front of the arms look, they are GREAT

I love, love, love my new arms!!  I'd take a scar over any amount of extra skin.  But that's just me.  Do what you feel comfortable with.  I'm very athletic now and working out with the wings wasn't working for me.  I also love to wear tank tops.  I will say I need scar revision, but still love my arms 100%!!

I don't happen to have a picture of my scars from my arm lift, but I got it done in 2008 and they are barely visible now. 1 year post-op they faded not entirely but significantly, and by 2 years basically blend with my skin. I wear any kind of tops I want and you can only see scars up really close.  Dealing with the pain and initial scars was completely worth getting rid of the flab. I don't know if everyone will have the same results, but my guess is that all scars heal similiarly for the most part. I used a lot of Vitamin E oil on them for the first few months.
