HI Im 8yrs post Duodenal Switch and am wanting to get a tummy tuck. I see so many of you with tummy tuck:s and am wondering did insurance cover or did you self pay? I lost 120 lbs and have maintained. I have a good amount of sagging skin that gets red and irritated. I have a consult in 2 wks with a Dr here in MIchigan. Im just wondering if im going to have a battle with insurance or smooth sailing?
Thanks

My insurance covered a circumferential lower body lift, but not the anchor cut. However, I understand that I'm in the minority for that coverage.

My insurance paid for it. (Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO)  They denied me the first time and then my Dr. sent them pictures of my saggy tummy and they approved it. My insurance required that I had lost 100+ pounds, had been a steady weight for 6 months, was 2 years out from WLS and that my tummy hung a certain amount past my pubic bone.  I know that documentation of yeast infections, rashes and back pain have helped people get approved also.
I had my TT 6 weeks ago and I am very happy that I did it.
Good luck!

Thank you both for your replies, Im anxious to see what happens. Not sure why I have waited so long but better late than never. I have BCN and what they told me on the phone yesterday was all the prerequisites you listed. Ill keep my fingers crossed!

My insurance approved belly, boobs and arms.
Went thru the first time.

I feel fortunate!

I just recently had my first couple of consults..... Found out from one of the docs that BCBS of Michigan is really good about covering if you have lost over 100 pounds... Don't know what type of insurance you have or what doctor you are going to see.  I have UnitedHealthCare and they are trying to get it put through right now, but we will see.  I have been saying lots of prayers.  If they deny me, I am not planning on appealing or anything like that, I will just go self pay, because I don't have any REAL issues with my skin, it is just an annoyance for me.

OH and the doctor that I had my GOOD consult with and that is working with my insurance, the one I decided to use is Dr. DiNick.  He has an office in Novi and in Ypsilanti.... He was amazing... I have also heard good things about Dr. Hing, they both work out of Barix, but different locations I think.

Good Luck to you and keep me posted on what you find out and what doctor you end up going with.  Never know I may just change my mind... LOL....

HUGS to YOU,

My recommendation would be to contact the insurance company, take their name down and give them the situation.  Ask them how you can appeal it if it is denied from medical review.  Also, I would ask that you obtain CPT and ICD 9 codes from the insurance company.  I did all this from my insurance company and now I have made a post requesting help.
