Question about weight prior to plastics?
Hi
I am wondering if anyone has had a plastic surgeon suggest that they gain weight prior to a lower body lift. I have gone to two consults, one surgeon told me that he prefers that patients be about 20 lbs above their ideal weight and the other surgeon said that he would not consider a lower body lift until I either put back on some weight or at least more body fat. He estimated that my body fat is between 19-22% but said that it is hard to be sure with the excess skin.
I am 5'10" and I weigh 160 lbs usually, give or take 3-5lbs, it fluctuates. That is within a healthy weight range for my height
They didn't really explain why just said that I would get better results and that I would possibly lose more weight during the recovery period.
Any thoughts or has anyone had the same thing happen?
Thanks,
Ole

I've never heard anything like this. I had my LBL and weighed about 150 (5''8") before surgery. My weight went down to 135 after recovery which was too thin so I'm back to 150, a perfect weight for my body type.
I'd get some additional consults. Perhaps there is another reason your doctor wants you to gain weight first.
All the best. The journey is worth it.

Thanks for replying Kathie. I will schedule more consults since I am not looking at actually having surgery until next year. Just wanted to start preparing and to get an idea of how much skin/fat might be removed.
I lost weight after my bracchio and breast lift/reduction and at my lowest I weighed 148 which was too thin for my body type. I gained back to 160 which is where I feel healthy.
Take care,
Ole

Hi Sonnie,
How are you? I remember your pics being one of the reasons I decided to go ahead with first round of plastics. Seeing your results helped me picture what could be and gave me hope.
I don't think I am underweight but I know that there is still a disconnect between the brain and body. I do tend to lose weight after surgery so it could be that they want me to have a cushion so that I don't lose too much but I just wish they would explain that.
I am scheduling more consults to see what other surgeons say.
Take care,
Ole
