After I have my surgery, I will be in the hospital for at least two to three days if there are no complications (God forbid) but I'm concerned about the ride home...I live 3 hours away from where my surgery will take place...We have an SUV and the front seat will lean back..
My question (s) is... Did any of you have to drive very far after surgery to get home, and if so, how did you make it..

I guess looking at the wound pictures have me asking myself a whole new crop of questions and asking you all as well...What do you think is the best way to get home with as little discomfort as possible...? What about getting in and out of my vehicle..? Is there an easy or easier way to do it than you did..?

When I had my back surgery...Everything was fine and I did fine with only a few moans and groans as my DH would hit a bump in the road, I would gently reach over and SLAP THE CRAP out of him and he would be more careful..!! (JUST KIDDING, HE DID A GREAT JOB DRIVING MISS DAISY) When we got home, I had a satin blouse that I put under my bottom to slip, slide into and out of the bed...This worked like a charm, NO dragging at all..!
I'm going to buy some silk, and bring this with me to surgery to make getting in and out of the bed and vehicle more simple...IS THERE ANYTHING that you did that made everything more simple or is there anything that you have learned that you wish you had known about that would or could have made things way better for you..?

Thank you ALL SO MUCH...I DO APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS..!!

I have about a 2 hour drive home.  When I had my LBL we just took everything slow and my husband did a really good job.  The doctor also made sure I was pretty druged up for the ride.  I even had my prescriptions with me incase I needed more on the way.

Getting in and out of the car will not be real easy but the hospital will assist you in that part.

Good luck with everything!!  I am haivng surgery on Wednesday this week.  Upper Body lift and Arms!!

We had a 4 hr ride home after my lbl and ba/bl. My dr. gave me a Lovenox (sp.?) injection to prevent blood clots and we took it slow and easy. You will want to be very careful getting in and out of the car and take plenty of pillows with you so you can prop yourself into a comfortable position.

We have an SUV and part of the time I reclined the seat back and part of the time I didn't. It was so good to get home!

Thank you for your response...The getting in and out of our vehicle is my concern...I quess I just can't get the wound pictures out of my mind...I keep thinking of the pulling and tugging of the skin when I sit, and that i can't wrap my brain around..

Thanks Sweetie..!
