Open wound on Left hip LBL incision 10 weeks out???
I am 10 weeks out and had a small strange looking area on my left hip incision and it popped 2 nights ago and I have a huge open wound now about 1" in diameter. The Physician assistant emailed me back after I emailed him a couple of pictures since we are 2 hours away and said it was hard to tell but it looks like a reaction to a residual stitch. REALLY?? I am supposed to just keep it covered and dry. Has anyone had something like this happen and what did the doctor do? How long till it healed closed? I am a wreck about this.

depends on how deep it is I guess, when I had my RNY it healed on the outside first and then actually the Dr. had to open it & I had to pack it with saline soaked gauze till it closed. when I had my thighs done the wound dehissed(opened) but it wasnt deep the skn opened and u could see my leg guts it was disusting looking but he tokd me to keep it clewan and I chnged the dressing twice a day used antibiotic ointmnet , most important keep it clean and do not touch it with your fingers it took several weeks to clse th scar is ugly PS wants to fix it but it is so far up on my inner thigh only my husband, GYN & PS will see it, so I dont want it touched again
Good Luck

Well my hip opened at about 3 weeks I guess. And it was most likely from an internal stitch as well. My lbl was healing great and actually moved on to using silicon sheeting and scar treatment. I woke up to this one morning under the silicon.
Like you were told ... My surgeon advised to keep it clean and dry. I also put a thin layer of antibiotic ointment on it before the gauze. It need to heal from the inside out. Mine has stayed infection free and is getting better. A scar revision will probably be needed which I'm sure your doctor can take care of in his office. Hips open quite a bit I think. It's an area that is pulled pretty tight.

I had one like that in the anchor just about an inch above the horizontal cut where a staple cracked about 3 weeks into this. Like the others, put a thin bit of antibiotic ointment on it, covered with gauze, and let it heal.
At this point, 8 1/2 weeks out (so 5 weeks after it split), it's all healed and just a little bit larger/redder than the surrounding scars. No problem and the surgeon tells me that after 6 months it'll look just like the rest.

I had a pretty large opening due to necrosis on my back from my LBL. We had to pack it with a sepcial solution. I then even had another spot that had fluid that had to be opened back up as well. It took a few months before it was completly healed. I definatly think you need to get to the doctor tomorrow though so they can see it.
I also was 2 hours away from my doctor and had to go see him about 3 times a week for the first few weeks.
Just try not to worry and keep it covered until you see the doctor!!
