Am I selfish or what?

Many of you have heard or seen the news informing us that education is taking a major hit right now with the budget cuts. No one is sure of anything except that some teachers, counselors, and support staff will lose their jobs. It's sad to say that many won't know including me until the summer. Well, I'm scheduled to have my love handles and back fat removed in two weeks. The problem is I can't decide if I should go through this or not. Perhaps I should use the money to pay off some bills (at least 3) or save for the rainy days that maybe coming. However, I know saving is not a real option for me because things always pop up. I know the decision is mine's and I must make it alone but I sure would like to hear what others think. Thanks

It is a hard time in the economy but sometimes you just have to make the decision to do something for yourself!  That is a decision that only you can make but I say GO FOR IT!!

January 2009 we refinanced our house and took out 30,000 for three seperate procedures (the last one is on THIS WEDNESDAY).  Its actually the Upper Body Lift (back fat) that I am having done! (I see that what you are scheduled for).  This was the only way we could afford the surgery and it worked for us!!

Good Luck with your decision!!

If getting laid off is a possibility I would hold off on the plastics.  Local "government" work, teachers, cops, firemen, garbage collectors, etc is not as secure as it used to be.

BTW great doctor!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I see we had the same doc and I love him to death. I'm a month ahead you in regards to our surgery. I lost a total of 240 but I regained 40 almost 50 of those pounds back, Kuhn said it's because I quit working out three hours a day. However, he's not as concerned as I was. According to his records it was only 30 lbs but if it goes over that then we'll revisit some things. Thanks for your input

Do you need your income to live on? If so, then I would postpone. This surgery is elective and you can have it whenever you are feeling more stable in your job. Whenever we have surgery there is a risk of complications - if you had complications that kept you from your job for while would could that be used to let you go under these trying cir****tances?

I see you've already had several reconstructive surgeries so I presume that that you've taken care of the worst parts of massive hanging skin.

Do what ever you are most comfortable with. Be honest with your self....if you lost your job would you feel terrible guilt about having the ps?  Or would you feel glad you got it done while you could?  Good luck with your decision, I know it isn't an easy one to make.

Thanks to all *****sponded to my post. I appreciate your input. The money that I will be using to cover my surgery isn't taking away from my household budget. I think I would feel better having the surgery done. I think it would help me to look better if I have to search for new employment, I'm going to have the surgery done. I was just thinking about other possible usage for the extra cash. Overall my family and I base everything off one income just in case something like unemployment or illness happens. In my previous marriage my ex-husband was laid off five months into our new life together. So experience has taught me to live within my budget or better yet below our means. That's probably why I'm able to do so many things that seems impossible, My family said to go for it as well. Thanks again for being my sounding board.

I know how you feel, I felt so selfish taking the money from our emergency cash to pay for plastics but I finally did come to terms with it and told myself it was a mental emergency. I knew I would never feel good living in my skin so it had to be removed for my mental health.

Good luck on you upcoming surgery and remember everything always happen for a reason and we are never given more than we can handle.
