Any Recommendations for PHX Surgeons

I live in Flagstaff and my surgeon beat feet out of town having done one of my procedures. I've consulted with the other Docs in the practice and am not satisfied with what they offer. These guys are the only game in town in FLG. I'm going to have to cast a wider net.

If anyone has a recommendation for a PHX surgeon I'd love to hear about your experience and if you're willing to share pics that would be awesome but not expected.

If anyone has advice on Docs to avoid in the area I'm open to hearing about that also.

Have an outstanding day!

I haven't had any procedures yet but I have done quite a bit of research so maybe it will help.  I am going to PHX in March for 3-4 consults so will have more info later.  The best recommended doc for body lift was Mezahari.  I haven't found one negative comment about him on several sites.  Others that do lift procedures are Sean Lille, Sumer Daiza, AB Guerra.  I guess (per two of the nurses I talked to) there is one well-advertised practice that has some "difficulties".  I went to the website Health Grades and others to find out what other people thought.  One that does "staging" in procedures (TT, BL/BA, thigh lift) and recommended by those nurses is Dr. Cohen.  Just some ideas...hard to find 100% best but it maybe gives you somewhere to start.

Good luck

Hi Ladies,
I'm a former thrilled patient of Dr. Mazaheri and can answer any questions you have about him and also a couple other docs I checked out before going with Dr. Mazaheri. I had a consult with Dr. Robert Cohen and he was a really nice guy, kind of young. It seems he is very good at what he does but I was dissappointed that his staff was less than honest with me. On the two times I called before my consult I asked specifically whether he performed lower body lifts and I was told yes. At the consult I found out that was not the case. He is experienced in the "mommy make-overs" but not so much for people who have our kind of post weight loss skin. He was up-front and honest that it just wasn't his expertise. He was a nice kid but I wish I would have known that before I wasted the $100 consult fee. Also Sumer Daiza's receptionist was also less than honest about Dr. Daiza's experience with body lifts and the formerly obese patients.
My advice to you, having gone through it myself, is to do your homework. Take your time and choose a surgeon that you like, feel comfortable with and has the experience with post-weight loss skin and doing the specific procedures you want done.
Prior to my plastics I made the mistake of not doing research and choosing the wrong surgeon for a hysterectomy with anterior/posterior repair. The doctor botched the surgery, almost killed me and because of it I have had to have revisions and will still need more vaginal repair work done this year. It is a lesson you don't want to learn the hard way.
I will keep you in my prayers and I wish you both the very, very best on your plastics journey!

 Thank you Sandi!

I've begun the conversation with Dr. Mazaheri's office and am optimistic for a positive outcome. I really appreciate being the beneficiary of your experience. Posts of this sort are a component of my research, after all- the people who actually live these experiences are the experts.

The info on other Docs is helpful, as well. I'm finding that it is extremely difficult to get a straight/honest answer upfront regarding procedures and requirements. Anything will be said to get you in for a consult regardless of the cost to me in terms of time and money.

I hope it's ok for me to contact you in the future with questions.

Have an outstanding day!

You are so welcome! Trying to choose the right surgeon is so important and such a difficult decision! As you stated:

While I was searching for a surgeon and finding this out, I almost gave up. I couldn't believe that people could be so shifty just to get you in the door and to get your consult fee! I was so utterly disappointed that I almost decided not to even have the plastics. I spent a lot of time praying for God to guide me to the right surgeon. I'm so grateful that He did!!

Of course it is ok for you to ask me anything! I'm an open book. Having been through this already, I understand what it's like to be where you are. It's hard, but so worth it! I would do it again 100 times over to get what I have now!

Be blessed!

After consulting with Dr. Cohen, Dr. Lille, and Dr. Gawley, I chose to have my extended TT and breast lift with augmentation by Dr. Brian Gawley in Scottsdale. He has been known as a “breast guy" who works a lot with breast cancer patients, but I think he does a wonderful job with GBS patients, too (even though he doesn’t have many pics of them on his website). There was no consultation charge and his office helped me get hooked up with Care Credit. His staff was very personable and encouraging.   At first, I was disappointed he wouldn’t do the full lower body lift in one surgery – he believes he gets the best results doing either the front or back at one time, not combining them…says he can’t get the tummy as tight if he is doing the backside at the same time. Since my tummy is now tighter than I expected it to be, I believe him. Also, I can’t imagine not being able to lie down comfortably after a TT (which you couldn’t do if your incisions go all the way around!)   I’m now preparing for the next step in my “body repair" work…the backside!! When it comes time to do my arms and legs, I’ll probably consult with AB Guerra – the pics on his website are amazing…but I may stay with Dr. Gawley for those, too, since he has done such a wonderful job so far.   JJ
