any TT /hernia repair vets here experience anything like this?

I'm almost 4 wks out from my TT/Hernia repair.   So far so good, no complications, no infection, incision healing beautifully.

Last night I got INTENSE pain from below my ribcage to about the top of my navel.  At first I thought I was having gas pains (and I was burping a little).  I took some charcol tablets.  But it intensified and I was in some serious pain.  It felt like spasms that would come in waves, almost like labor pain!  I had some vicodin left over from the surgery and took that, and that only took the edge off so I could sleep.  I could still feel the pain.

Thank God this morning it was gone.  But I'm afraid it might come back.  I had a DS surgery....so I know gas can be an issue (I've had it a few times where it hurt) but this felt way more intense.  I hadn't eaten anything unusual or new.

I will be seeing my surgeon within a week.  If I had the pain this morning, I would have seen him today!  But until I talk to him I was wondering if anyone here could relate or has ever had something similar.

Thanks!

It sounds like an experience I had with my gall bladder. I also compared my pains to labor pain. The only difference in gall bladder pain ad labor pain is you get a break between contractions.  I had to be given demerol in the ER to relieve the pain. It is not unsual following losing large amounts of weight to have gall bladder problems.  Yes, I had my gall bladder removed and haven't had the problem since. Your doc can do some test to determine if you have gall bladder issues.

Thanks for your response.... but I had my gall bladder out.  Yes, that was intense pain too.  This was not dissimilar, except for me the gallbladder pain was more in my chest than below my ribs.

Thanks though. :)  I'll post what the doc says when I see him.  So far no pain has returned.

You could still have a stone in the duct.

Wow, I hope you called your dr's office to ask them what to do.... you should be prepared it if happens again.

Did you over do something to cause the muscle to go into spasms?

sounds ulcer-type (very painful)

GERD , reflux type

I had similar type thing after my DS surgery (didn't have it before, well I had GERD but not like the intense painful attacks)

They lasted 4 months and then it went away

I know the stress of surgery can cause stress ulcers and those kind of reflux, acid or actual post op ulcers

that is why they give most ALL post op patients in the hospital (surgery of ANY type) the preventive type meds

Omeprazole, Protonix or whatever.  they give it before AND usually you have to be on those preventive meds after surgery for a long time, too in many cases

that would be my guess

But an endoscopy (diagnostic test going down with a scope) would be the test to find out for sure

It hurts VERY VERY bad

please be checked out by a doctor

after  mine healed it hasn't recurred, but once you have it there is a higher chance of occurance with the ulcer.

I feel for you

and hope you feel better

OH and check with your doctor.. OF course, ask your doctor but if you are having those symptoms and your doctor confirms that IS what it is you can take your med more times a day like 3 or 4 ttimes a day instead of once a day

I used Omeprazole (over the counter) Generic

don't take it without your doctors advice though

good luck!
