Panniculectomy vs. tummy tuck

Has anyone out there had just a panniculectomy and not a tummy tuck? Do you wish you had done a tummy tuck instead? My insurance said they will pay for a panniculectomy but not a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). My bariatric surgeon can do the panniculectomy but I am having a hard time deciding if I should do that or upgrade and pay $5000 for the tummy tuck with a plastic surgeon. Help!!!! I'm so undecisive!

I would pay the difference and get the tummy tuck. A panni removal is just going to remove the skin. It doesn't involve the contouring that you get with a tummy tuck. The muscle tightening and any lipo you might need gives much better results. You won't get that with the panni removal . You also may not be able to keep your belly button with the panni removal.

I would pay the extra for the abdominoplasty.

I asked my surgeon if there would be any benefit to the abdominoplasty - he pulled and pushed some skin around, and said "yes." So I went that route, and was thrilled.

Ask your surgeon to show you what the difference will be on your body.

Abdominoplasty removes fat and tightens the abdominal muscle, while a panniculectomy only gets rid of the pannus.  What do you want to end up with?

Why don't you get your panniculectomy approved through a plastic surgeon and then just pay the difference to upgrade to abdominoplast?   I would think it would be less then 5K.

A panniculectomy is basically an amputation of skin tissue.  You will probably not be happy with it.

I know a lady who only had the panni and she is very unhappy w/ the fact that she didn't have the abdominoplasty!  I agree w/ Levittown Loser -- go through a plastic surgeon.  I have received several quotes between $3,500 and $3,800 for the abd in conjunction w/ the panni.

Get it done right the first time.  You don't want to go through the surgery and then wish you had done more.

I had the panni only and went back for a revision TT a year later.

I say pay for the upgrade - I've never seen someone on here have the TT instead of a panni and regret the TT.  I have, however, seen quite a few panni only who go back for a TT.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Thank you so much everyone for your help! I have decided to go for the full tummy tuck and am opting to have a plastic surgeon do it. I spoke with them today and they scheduled it for 2/14! Now I'm nervous!
