Plastics out of the U.S....Options other than Mexico? Rio perhaps?

I am still in the process of losing weight...so plastics are still a ways out. However, I am considering a breast lift and an eye lid and under eye lift. I'm looking at options within the US. I'm also curious about the experiences that people have had outside of the US. I see a lot of posts about Mexico (esp. Tijuana and Monterey). However, the drug violence in Mexico is concerning to me. I'd appreciate any comments about safety in those areas.

I'm also interested to know if anyone has gone to Rio for Plastics. It seems that this is also a hotspot. I haven't seen much on this board regarding that area. What appeals to me in addition to the cost is the extended care over a 5 day period or so. I'm currently single. It's a lot to ask family (out of town) or friends to stay with me after surgery. I feel that they were already supportive for my VSG recently. Quality and safety are (of course) primary concerns....but recovering in a beautiful tropical destination also sounds nice.

I was just in Monterrey and it was very safe IMHO. MTY is not a border town like TJ. It's not as "active" with violence ... but there has been activity there but in my opinion ... there are areas of Philadelphia where I am from that are worse! You just need to be smart. Take a look at the picture album in my profile that shows the area and what it looks like ... hotel etc.

I agree with Tom.  I was just in Monterrey.  I went by myself and sure, Tom was there up until the last 2 days.  I had the shuttle driver take me down to the plaza for shopping for 2 hours the afternoon the day before I left.  I did see police at the mall the last evening when I walked back to the hotel (well across the parking lot) by myself.  I had no problems.  As with Tom, there are areas in Sacramento where I won't go by myself at night.  I wasn't about to be stupid in Monterrey when I'm not stupid in Sac as a single woman I do look and watch about my surroundings.  My trip home was 13+ hours, not sure I could have managed longer.  It was a very long day.
