Swell Hell- discouraged
I am 9 weeks out from a TT and hernia repair surgery. I am in swell hell and so discouraged. I really thought by now it would be undercontrol. I was doing really well and around week 7-8 I was down to about nothing, now this past week I feel like a balloon. I have yet to get back into any of the pants I wore before my TT they are all to uncomfortable and I feel worse about my body then I did before my TT. How is that possiable?

I think I've read it could be 6 to 12 months of swelling before we are back to "normal". Are you still wearing your compression garment?

Ya, I tried to go a few days with out it when I was not swollen, but went back to it.
I have to say if I had been told those kinds of estimates and know this is the way it would be I think I would have reconsidered the surgery all together. To be larger then you were before a TT sucks.

Do yourself a favor and look at your before and now pics :) It will cement back in that what you did will be worth it in the end. I'm just 3 days out in this picture from LBL and very swollen but look at the difference. Don't see perfection but improvement :)

Aloha Kim-
Please don't be discouraged, funnel that frustration into patience....
From what I've read on the boards, most people seem to need 4-5 months to really get rid of post op swelling/edema/etc. The other thing that sticks in my mind is...we are ALL individuals with our own timetable. We forget that plastics is often much more of a major surgery than our original WLS - longer time under anesthesia, definitely more tissue damage and rearranging, and we are more active now than we were at 250-350 pounds ( at least I am!),so we might be expecting a slam dunk 1 day recovery and having everything back to better than it was pre op. Ain't gonna happen. You even threw a new baby into the mix- brave woman!
So - give it time to heal properly ( remember you only get one shot at healing correctly the first time out- if you blow it by doing too much too soon, everything after that will be a revision, and you'll be dealing with scar tissue, more down time, etc). You had a hernia repair- that no doubt added to the complexity of your procedure and time under/recovery later. Some people say to watch the sodium intake- remember more water flushes excess sodium and toxins out of your system, so keep your water intake over 64 oz per day that and your protein up ( I shot for 125g+/day from 3 weeks pre and 6 mopnths post op).
I was very lucky- a fast healer, didn't mind the drains as I had very little edema later, never had to wear compression garments, and was able to go back to the gym after only 12 days. However, my kids are teens- I took time off work- I upped my protein- I followed all the rules and didn't rush anything - and my surgeon said even he was amazed at how quick the recovery was and how thin the scars are. There are people at WLS group who were operated on a full month before me who are STILL having swelling issues a year down the road. We are all individuals!
I did measure the night before PS, immediately afterwards, and then several weeks later- I had a CBL so I was told to expect a larger waist initially, and not as much curve as if I'd done a fleur du lis cut ( I didn't weant the vertical scar) - my waist was a full 2" bigger post op and that lasted about 4 weeks . I was a little surprised to have to wear shorts/bottoms that were 2 sizes larger than I had been wearing pre op- but everything settled and now my waist is an inch smaller and the hips are 2.5 inches smaller than pre op- again, it took about 4 weeks.
Be patient- you want a good outcome, so don;t rush anything and don;t be surprised if increased activity ( exercise OR parenting!) causes temporary swelling. It will subside! I like the previous poster's reccomendation of pre and post op photos to compare where you were and where you are going- so- here's mine.
