Hi everyone!  My time is almost here for my BL/BA.  My surgery was supposed to be on the 18th but the Anesthesia machine broke and the part wasn't going to be in until the 19th.. yea.. not my choice to do it without anesthesia...

I asked my surgeon all the pertinent questions - he also did my TT last winter so I'm comfy with him.  I asked about drains - he said sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't - all depends, and I won't know until I wake up - pray I don't have to have them!!  The implants will be under the muscle too.

I was wondering what your recovery was like?  My TT was pretty tough for me, both emotionally and physically, but going into the BL/BA I'm a lot better emotionally, because I know a lot more about what to expect.

I'm taking 3 weeks off from work, basically because I can.  My surgeon is 4 hours away and going back/forth with the Dr's appts etc will be tiring.  I'll be staying with my daughter for the first 2 days, then my BF will bring me back home.

Just wondering what to expect pain wise.  How long before you could shower?  He said my lifting restrictions would be 15 lbs - did you find lifting after the BL/BA hard to do?  How about lifting your arms over your head?

Any other info is greatly appreciated - just trying to get some ideas beforehand of what to expect.

Thanks!

I had mine done w/ my MTL. I felt no pain from my breasts at all. Not sure if that's because my thighs hurt so much. I was back to work after 10 days and probably could have gone sooner if it was just my breasts. Good for you taking off that long. If you can do it why not. I didn't have any issues w/ lifting anything or raising my arms over my head. I was able to shower the next day. Really for me the breasts were the easiest part out of all my surgeries.

Good luck, you'll love the results.

Sonya

Sonnie - did you have drains?  If so, how long did they stay in?

Nope, no drains in my breasts. Hopefully you won't have them either.

Taking 3 weeks off is to your advantage. The pain is in 2 different ways but it's totally manageable with the meds. You will have a deep soreness from the muscle work. The pain around the incisions is more nerve related. Once they start waking up and reattaching it's annoying and very sensitive. You might feel little jolts and zingers. That's all normal. I had no trouble lifting my arms over my head but you do want to follow the lifting restrictions. I was able to shower the next day but all surgeons have different protocols. I would have to say out of all of my procedures the BL/BA was the easiest recovery.

Good luck to you!

How long was it before the nerves started "waking up"?

It was probably around 2 weeks out when mine started and they can last for a bit as you are still healing. It's nothing that requires continued pain meds but it sometimes just catches you by surprise. The sensitivity really varies amongst us. I can just remember riding in the car about 3 weeks out and any bumps or jarring bothered me. Again, noting major but just annoying.

Thanks Ladies!!  I have heard its the easiest to recover from too - but I know everyone is different.

Glad to hear about the showering and arm lifting - I'm sure he'll send me home with a list of do's/don'ts and I just wasn't sure of what to expect!

I've read on here about the "zingers" - not looking forward to them, but its all part of the process and I won't be terribly surprised when it happens.

I'm getting excited!

I had my BL and arms done.  Arms hurt more than the boobs.  I did have 1 drain in my left boob, as it was larger, and Dr S reduced it to match the right.  The arms, make it a little difficult to shower and move, but have been able to wash my hair and stuff.  No real zingers yet but only out 8 days.  My boobs look good, need to post pics!  good luck...

Thanks!  I'm really hoping I don't have to have drains... but I really don't have any control over it!  It is what it is...

I'd love to see the pics when you get them posted - I'm getting so excited!
