Need Advice Re Mons Lift PS

Hello,

This is my first PS forum post; I've been a reg in the RNY and BMI>50 forums. I've lost 193 lbs. since my 3/31/09 RNY, just dipped under 200 lbs (I'm 5'8", have had a PS consult and an extended abdom. already approved by my BC/BS.

Here's my issue: when I told the plastic surgeon my main area of concern was my mons area as I carried (carry) my weight with a giant bulge over my pubic area, he said that the extended abdom. would help, "improve my quality of life," but that area would never be flat and he would not cut too low, avoiding the vaginal area due to possible loss of nerve/sensation. I will be seeking a second and possibly third opinion, but I'm hoping someone has had experience with this specific area. Is reconstruction of that area ever done, covered by insurance, etc.? It's my primary problem; sure I have loose skin on my lower tummy (thighs, upper arms, neck...hey, 193 lbs. are gone and I'm 47 yoa), but it's the mons area I'm most concerned with...help! And thanks!

~Linda in S FL

PS: New Years resolution: finding my core and working it! Want to get as fit as I can as the recovery from being skinned alive seems painful and harsh...

Hi, I can only say that I had extended TT 4 weeks ago and it lifted my mons area some, as it was sagging a little.  I didn't have a lot of problem there but it is tighter than before.  I think it will help you some but that is all I can offer.

Maybe during your consults you can ask if it can be lipo'd. when they tuck your tummy they pull up the mons area some.  With lipo, if that is possible, it should make a noticable difference.

I had my LBL/anchor just over 4 weeks ago, and had the same question for my PS. They did pull up on the mons area, and there is definite improvement. Still swollen, they say that'll be the last area for the swelling to go down, and DH and I have noticed that certain things have *shifted* slightly in placement. However, everything is functional, so not a big problem. Actually more like a treasure hunt LOL!

I had an extended anchor (fleur-de-lis) tummy tuck and my mons was lifted and lipo'd. It made a huge difference and it looks so much better. Just make sure your plastic surgeon knows that it's a big concern for you and make sure he explains his technique to address it. It takes some skill to not lift it too high but just enough to see the improvement. If it's lifted too much your hairline ends up being on your stomach and it can also change the shape and location of your labia. I have seen some after pictures that looked really bad.

I had a big fatty mons area that Dr Sauceda lipo'd first then lifted with my LBL.  It's totally different looking at it now.  There's still swelling as I'm only 4 days out, well really lost today due to my facelift.  But with everything sore from the facelift, nothing else seems to hurt as much!  I'll be posting pics later of before and afters.  Dr S was funny he was pushing on the fatty area of my mons and said I don't like this... told him me neither, I bet you can fix it!  He Did!

Thanks so much for the input! Sounds like maybe I don't need a separate procedure/authorization for this area, maybe just the specific procedure of my extended abdom. needs to defined more...?

Anyone else have just this area reconstructed? I really appreciate your comments/experiences as I only want to go under once!

I'm not sure if all surgeons lift the mons or if is considered separate.  Dr S does it with the LBL, and TT, I think.  I can take a more graphic photo after my shower, I'll put it in the PS after there is a password plastics and you have to be a friend.  Not sure how much of a close up I have of the mons before surgery.  It's in the pics, just not zoomed in.

Thanks, Chris! I'll request to be a friend, friend!
I hope you're healing well and quickly; I commend you for going through the procedure(s)! The results should be very worth the pain and efforts!

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't be flat! My surgeon left me sagging and I have many friends who had bodies just like mine (big apron, sagging fatty mons) and their surgeons were able to make them look beautiful. I am five years out and I am miserable. I spent so much money to finally be "normal" and he was unskilled. I have seen another surgeon to affirm what I knew but I can't afford to have it fixed.

I am so sorry your surgeon did not take care of this for you. Thanks for warning others. What did you original surgeon say? He will not cut you a deal? How much will it cost to get fixed with a new surgeon? I'd get a loan and get it done, if I were you. You have a lot of living left to do.
