LBL after a tummy tuck

Is it possible for a surgeon to do that or should I just consider getting the LBL/Tummy tuck at the same time?

It's possible but I'd rather get knocked out once and cut on once.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I'm kind of confused.    Wouldn't it be an LBL or a tummy tuck?   Both with can be done or without vertical resection (inverted T)

You wouldn't need both unless say you had one ... gained weight and needed work again.

The difference in the two is the LBL would not only help the abdominal area but the thigh and back laxity along with it.  The TT will really only help the ab/mons area.

Think about the skin that would be removed with each surgery... personally, I can't see any way that they could do the TT at a later time unless they pretty much redid the LBL in front, so you might as well get it done at the same time.

Mine was 4 weeks go - minimal pain, no problems.

An LBL includes a tummy tuck. It's a tummy tuck and thigh lift and buttock lift combined in one surgery. It is possible to have the tummy tuck done as one procedure and later have the back side done. The surgeon would basically join the incisions in the hip area. I have a friend that had it done that way. Her tummy tuck was done first and at a later time she finished with the back side. Most people opt to have it all done at once.

 Aloha Kat-

As the prev poster said, your lower body lift ( if it is a circumferential belt lipectomy, goes 360` around) includes a tummy tuck....and can b done all at once or in 2 operations. Your surgeon might be telling you to do it in 2 parts - the front half and the back half.

The tummy tuck should include muscle tightening of your rectus abdominal muscles-  for the rectus muscles, think of the straight line down the center of the "6 pack" on your front, and that straight line being widened from 1/2 inch to 4 inches by extra weight or pregnancy stretching. Those are the rectus muscles. A tummy tuck also involves removal of extra skin hanging down ( the pannus or apron).  Some insurance covered panniculectomies might not cover the muscle tightening but I feel it's an important part if you are active and into exercising- I find it much easier to do my CORE exercises now.

The back portion includes a butt lift. With the circumferential belt lipectomy, you also get some improvement of the lateral ( outside) thigh contour, but nothing for the medial (inside) of your thighs. That can only be improved with a thigh lift

Your waist might actually become slightly thicker ( less curve between your waist and hips) with the lower body lift UNLESS they do a fleur du lis ( vertical cut down the center of your abdomen) which allows for some skin to be removed that enhances your tucked in waist. I didn't want that vertical  scar- all my scars are easily hidden by a bikini bottom- and my PS did give me a new belly button that looks  better than my original belly button- if he hadn't, my belly button would be down by my mons. I have plenty of photos posted, feel free to look.

Some surgeons will not do the lower body lift all at once - either due to their lack of comfort doing the procedures ( simply don't feel comfortable doing a 5-7 hour procedure esp if you are doing breasts at the same time), or don't have a partner working at the same time ( shortens surgery time) or because the patient is not in the best physical condition to handle that long a procedure. It did impact my surgeon choice- the one that does 25 - 30 CBLs per year vs the other 2 that I consulted with who would have split it up into 2 procedures. With 2 procedures, you have twice the risk ( twice the anesthesia as well as infection), more cost ( some things charged only once with the entire LBL will be charged twice, like basic operating room charge surgical packs, anesthetist, assistant, drugs, etc) and twice the down time/time off work- so factor these in when making your decision.

I was in good physical condition, wanted one healing recovery time, and only wanted to go under once if possble- I also had my breast lift and augmentation at the same time so mine was a 6.5 hour procedure, in the recovery center one night then home the next AM. Terrific recovery and outcome, but I was extremely well prepped by my PS office and I really focused on lots of conditioning ahead of time ( low body fat, lots of muscle built up, upped my protein 3 weeks prior to and 6 months post surgery) - used the tempurpedic pillows to recover rather than a recliner ( and already loaned them to 3 other friends since then, so they were a great investment at $350).

Good luck- ask why your surgeon would offer it in 2 operations rather than one - if it's his/her comfort level with the procedure rather tahn any of your physical problems that prevent it from being done at once, keep interviewing surgeons!

Be well- XOXOLori

Kat i agree with everything you say - it is better to think of the patients health and comfort above everything else - plus staging it will produce long term better results... as well as scars being easier to hide the 360 lower body lift doesn't look that great around the waist after the op!!!

Aloha-

Sorry, W, but I need to correct you ...not trying to be belligerent, just trying to get  facts out as this is an informational forum..... the 360` scar is NOT around your waist- it is much, much lower, just above your pubis ( at the hair line) , and travels just above the global fissure ( a more polite term than butt crack). In fact, if the scar is as high as you are describing, then your surgeon has pulled your lower skin up too high and not pulled your upper skin down enough - this would sadly result in your pubic hair line starting too high as well. Look for a better surgeon if that's what they warned you about!

My 360` scar is razor thin and is undetectable under bikini bottoms ( and these are fairly brief bottoms as well). If I wanted to, I could wear a string bikini bottom and not have them show.

Sometimes, doing both front and back at once IS thinking of the patient's well being- every anesthetic procedure carries  potential risk, not just from the anesthetic drugs and their metabolites but recovery, thromboemboli, pneumonia, etc.  Each additional surgical procedure carries an additional risk of infection as well as pain, immobility, and down time.  Income does get interrupted. Admittedly, it is a different health care system in the UK and Europe, so perhaps interruption of income is a moot point there, but must be taken into consideration in the US . You'll be missing 2-3 weeks of work once vs missing that amount of work TWICE with 2 procedures. You are already on pain meds and (hopefully) your PS is using multimodal pain relief  ( cool packs, OnQ pain blocker, NSAIDs as well as narcotics) - so I did not find the additional procedures added to my discomfort at all. Then again, as I said, I was well prepped by my doctor's office, was in terrific shape for my surgery, and have alot of first hand medical knowledge ( I'm a veterinarian).

Staging does not necessarily produce better results unless the surgeon is revising or correcting errors made during the first surgery, such as dog ears. Only a vertical incision will give you a narrower waist ( and Kat is considering that with the fleur du lis cut). And that  FDL incision will leave a far more noticeable scar than the 360` CBL, one that cannot be hidden with a bikini bottom.

Be well, be informed, be in shape! XOXOLori

I never said the scar was around your waist i said the final result around your waist!
