question about pain medicine?
Ask for more and then start spacing doses or better yet taking a smaller dose and see if that works. I needed pain medication longer than typical. Do make sure you are moving around enough. It helps with overall soreness. Good luck, Loris

Thanks for the replies everyone. I tried Tylenol a couple days ago and I was really sore. Very true about pain medicine helping you to be more active. When I take it I'm able to take care of my 3 kids and busy house hold. When I don't I'm resting and sore. I tried it again this morning. It does help but not as good as what I have been taking. With out my Rx pain med I feel this kinda burning sensation under my skin that I don't like, is this normal?

Yes, I sometimes get a burning pain sensation - mostly in the areas where there was extra work done - I had autoaugmentation in the rear and some positions of sitting bring that pain on or when I stand from a seated position. I also have it in the back of my arms near the wound area from time to time. I ignore it because it goes away quickly and I want to get used to what the new reality of my body is after such extensive and aggressive surgery. Of course if something is odd or very painful I don't ignore it as it might be a health issue. I think it might have something to do with the cut nerves or with inflammation/swelling of the tissues.
Obviously I am not even as far out from surgery as you, but I take percosets and the forbidden ibuprofren. NOTHING OTC works like ibuprofren so I will take my chances!! I do take a prevacid every day while I am on it, that is what my PS suggested. He is familiar with RNY patients.
Usually I take only tylenol, but this is a special cir****tance so I am taking what is most effective.
I do not think it is unreasonable to request more because there is no reason you should have to be in any pain if it can be controlled.

Thanks for the reply. After my gallbladder and adhesion removal surgery I had severe pain. They tried all kinds of narcotics and nothing was helping. Finally they had me take some Ibuprofen and it was the only thing that worked. So I've been there. When I saw my surgeon on Thursday they gave me a refill on my Rx med. Glad I have it because today I've been having some bad pain in my mid section that I think is possibly from where my compression garment is squeezing me too tight.

I have a binder from the PS and he does not use anything but that and he also just tells us to make it as tight as we prefer!! I like it really tight right now. MY binder has panels in it - nlike three rows so it bends when you sit and stuff I actually love this thing and feel nakid when I take it off to wa****!!
I r=think i would be in a ton of pain if it were not for the IB.
