question about pain medicine?

I'm curious how long you had to take pain meds  post op TT?  I had my TT 9 days ago and the pain hasn't been terrible but I am still pretty uncomfortable when I don't take my rx pain medicine.  I keep trying to see how I feel with out it because it is almost gone.  Not sure if I need to just tough it out at this point or if it's reasonable to request more?

Thanks!

You might want to try OTC meds at this point, like tylenol.  I was tired of the way the narcotics made me feel, plus they contribute to consipation.  The tylenol worked just as well as the percocet or tylenol with codeine that my doc prescribed.

I gradually spread the time between doses apart and was off the Rx pain meds in about a week.  I switched over to Tylenol from there.

I had LBL with a large hernia repair and arm lift and I was on a morphine drip for the first day post op. After that I only took one pill - I hated the side effects and it only really hurt when I used my muscles such as when coughing.

Obviously our pain tolerances are different and our expectations of how much pain is acceptable differs as well. I think being uncomfortable from time to time, for example when you move around a lot or cough is acceptable if most of the time you're not, especially if pain subsides soon after. Have you tried any OTC pain medication?

I'm still taking percocet after surgery on Nov. 3.  By contrast, I took vicodan for 2 days after my RNY.  I did have complications, and who knows, if I didn't have those, I'd probably be off the 'scrip drugs by now.

I have reduced the dosage in half, and am now adding time between doses.  But I will take an extra one if I am in a little more pain, or I know I'll be spending a lot of time up and around.

At this point, I 'm not willing to "tough it out."  Everyone from my surgeon, to the hematologist, to the pulmonologist, to my mom have said that reducing the pain will allow me to get up and around and that will help my healing more than toughing it out will.

Thanks for asking.  As of now I'm not.  I plan to call my primary doctor if I have any signs of needing anxiety medication though.  So far I've been ok.  Although I did have one night where I couldn't stop thinking about it, couldn't sleep, and had that racing heart feeling.  I have a history of anxiety so I know when to call.  Glad to hear you are taking some.  How are you feeling?  It's so scary when things go wrong.

you should be switching over to tylenol by now, especially if u r taking Percocet it is very addicting and it doesnt much time to get used to it
