drains are out!

whew... it's been a long 8 weeks with those drains, but they're finally gone.  so relieved.  no more little black back to drag around and worry about dropping.

surgeon was pleased with just about everything.  only snag was that the pseudomonas infection hit my left hip and needs to be packed with Dakin's solution dipped gauze for a week.  Not a painful thing, just something else for my husband to handle.

i'm switching from my abdominal binder to spanx (under boob to above knee) and that should be a bit more comfortable, i'm hoping.

now to get more exercising in... next appointment on January 10.

I'm going to take it VERY easy with the exercise.  I'm pretty much a lazy-ass anyway.  I'll start with walking and some very light arm weight training and go slowly from there.

I agree with Muffin - don't push too hard because your poor body has a lot of healing to do - much more than those of us who didn't have complications. Listen to your body as you exercise.

Glad to hear your drains are gone. I hope you enjoy the spanx - how much longer do you have to wear compression? I was told for my LBL/hernia repair I only needed to wear compression for 6-8 weeks.

He said as long as I feel like I need it.  Because of the blood thinners, I'm still pretty waterlogged and the compression keeps that down.  Plus, the open incision in the front makes me feel like my guts are going to fall out- of course I know that won't happen, but the binder helps my head KNOW it.

Glad to hear you are starting the new year drain-less.  I ready your "road to recovery" the other day and it is great to see things are working out!
