I'm 10 weeks out and mine are screaming red too, but I think it will take 2 to 3 years for them to lighten.  My wls scars are almost 2 yrs old now and are finally starting to fade.  I am very light skinned and that's just how I heal.  It takes LOTS of time but eventually all of the scars on my body have turned completely white.  I know that some people's turn white quicker but not mine : (

Thanks for your responses,  I guess i will have to live with (in Total) 50 inches of deep brown lines criss crossing my hips and tummy and breasts. (breast reduction- that has to be redone - dogs ears!)  for three more years of lines!!!
,Thanks. (damn!)

I'm two months out of a TT and arms...I find that my scars darken when I'm cold, and lighten when I am warmer.  Weird huh?

Also - some areas are lighter than others.

I've been putting Bio-Oil on for about a month.  Not sure if it helps or not...I'll try posting pics of my scars tomorrow...

I used Bio-oil on my Lap Band scars and it did nothing!  I used the CVS Scar Sheets on my arms and tummy and it lightened them up a lot.  They are now lighter than my LapBand scar which is almost 3 yrs old.  Some people say Bio-oil works, but it didn't work for me!
My scars do the same thing, when I'm cold the circulation is decreased and they get darker.

I honestly feel that the massaging I do when putting on the bio-oil probably works better than the actual oil itself.

My VSG scars pretty much disappeared all on their own...

My PS says nothing really helps - it is all about your body and how it reacts.

Scarring can always be frustrating following plastic surgery. For patients that have drak, raised or red scars following surgery, I recommend Mepiform silicone sheets. They can be prucased over th internet from multiple distributors. The silicone sheets can be cut into strips and worn for up to 23h per day. The sheets can then be washed with warm water/soap and reapplied. Each strip should last you a week or more. I used this on an incision of my own and was very skeptical about it at first, but after 6 weeks it lightened and flattened out. I have been recommending it now for a few years with very happy patients. (FYI, I do not have any vested interest in this product). You do have to give it at least 6-8 weeks to work.

Hope this helps.

Dr Michaels, Do you think they would work on older scars?  Thanks!
