I have heard several people mention that after the tummy tuck, you walk hunched over.  I would like to know generally how long will you walk like that?  Also when does the swelling set in?  And lastly how many people experienced restricting in eating and how long did that last?

Thank you.
God is good all the time!!

My surgeon required to me to walk hunched until the first recheck at one week to prevent pulling on the incisions.  I am now out 11 days and I am still a bit hunched sometimes.

The first few days after surgery, I felt like I was back to the liquid/soft food phase.  Now, I feel more restriction but closer back to pre-plastic surgery.

Things to consider - be sure you have lots of pillows, a good chair (preferably recliner), really loose pants (consider tie instead of elastic) to go home in, a ****yx pillow (my tailbone/butt really hurts), sports bra, pads (sanitary napkins for under the compression band) and alcohol wipes.

I had to walk hunched over for 5 days then I was allowed to slowly straighten up over a few days. I was concerned that I would end up with a back ache but surprisingly that didn't cause any problems.

You will wake up from surgery with swelling - and a binder on to help control it. If you are sensitive to sodium like I am - you must severely limit it or you will suffer to consequence. The few times I've had excess sodium, I've noticed I gained 1-2 pounds of fluid the next day and oh-boy, that makes a huge difference. Also I lost 5 pounds from the weight I went into the hospital for surgery after I came home from the hospital - that was all fluids from swelling.

My surgeon, in his written instructions told me not to worry about eating for the first few days - just to get some fluids in - not even to worry about protein. Between the muscle tightening, the long hours of anesthesia and the extensive surgery I found I had no appetite and I've noticed others post the same thing. It is really important to have top notch nutritious meals leading up to the surgery so you build up a storehouse of nutrients in your body to carry you through these few days. Once I got home, I was able to eat normally and in fact increased my food intake to make up for that loss and to give my body extra nutrients for healing.

Good luck for your surgery.

I never walked hunched over.  The swelling starts right away.  It took two months for my swelling to subside.  I had no restrictions on eating; however, for the first couple days my throat was sore from the tube they insert during surgery so I drank alot of jamba juice and ate soft foods.  Good luck.

My surgery was Monday and I'm not very hunched at all when I walk.  I was already swollen in the recovery room. I experienced quite a bit if nausea and had a time time finding things to eat the first couple of days.  Last night into today,  the nausea had passed and I am doing ok with food. My appetite is still smaller than usual but I enjoy what I do have.

I started out having crackers or peanut butter crackers at first.  My mouth was so dry that it took forevere to eat them.  Fresh fruit was one of the first things that I enjoyed as the nausea started to pass.  Some nice cold grapes are something that I would recommend having around after surgery. They were quick and enjoyable especially when I didn't feel like eating but wanted to have a little something with medications.

Good luck to you!  Keep us posted on how you do!
