Update- 10 days out from extended TT
Just an update on my surgery results. Ten days ago I had an extended TT with muscle tightening. The surgeon said that she removed 7 lbs of skin (very little fat)! I was so scared before surgery that I posted to this board that I was thinking of cancelling. Thanks to the responses and reassurance that I received, I went ahead with it.
When I woke up from surgery, I experienced pain for a few moments, said so, and then the nurse gave me morphine. I also woke up with an OnQ Pain Pump that automatically injected local anesthestic into my abdomen for 3 days. Immediately upon waking up and experiencing pain, the surgeon/nurse (don't remember because I was groggy) told me that the pain pump would start working soon. Well, she was right! I can say that other than the first few minutes, I had NO pain.
Nausea and dizziness from the anesthesia was the worst part. Also, I had pain from the catheter tearing/scratching my uretha (that was the result of incompetence). The surgery was on Tuesday, and I took pain meds until very early Friday morning- just because I was afraid that I might have pain without them. Once I stopped the pain meds, I felt 100% better and had no pain. Well, until Saturday when I developed a slight cold. Coughing and sneezing was excrutiating. However, my doctor immediately prescribed Tussionex Cough Syrup (contains hydrocodone), which stopped the coughing and sneezing.
So overall, the whole experience was not anywhere nearly as bad as I expected (I have a very active imagination! lol). The OnQ Pain Pump was a miracle for me, and I highly recommend that you ask your surgeon to use it!
