compression garment questions...

I am wondering what do I need to buy for abdominlaplasty?  I've been reading on line about stage 1 and stage 2 medical grade CGs and they are so expensive.  I just do not have $160 + to spend on them right now.  I simply can not spend $80 + on something I will only wear for 2 weeks.  I am so confused on what I need to have and I really don't have money to waste on something I don't need.  I also want to make sure I end up with good results and want to buy something that I will use.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hiya Laura,

I'm not even sure what you are referring to but, doesn't insurance cover everything associated with a surgery?

Christian
P.s.  I am so dense, I saw that you had updated (on some other page that linked me to this one) and I clicked on it, replied, and went back to what I thought was the MAIN forum...well imagine my surprise when magically there were all this plastic surgery questions!  I was like "What the heck!"   Then I realized that the link had taken me to THIS forum....

ha ha ha!   No wonder everyone here looks so pretty and slender, this is the forum for the becoming-prettier people....I'm not sure I'm allowed to hang out here.  What do you think?
hee hee.

Christian-

You're funny. I give you permision to hang out here  ;  )

I am having a tummy tuck in a couple weeks (eeek) and it would be wonderful if they paid for these garments.  I'm confused too.

There really is no reason to buy the fancy stuff. I had a LBL/hernia repair and I woke up from surgery wearing an abdominal binder - nothing fancy just a heavy duty elastic wrap= that closes with velcro. My surgeon gave me two additional binders to wear. I change and machine wash my binder each day after my shower. It doesn't take long to dry and if I only had one I think I could manage for the two weeks I had to wear it. I wear a t shirt under it, it doesn't touch my skin so I don't have to wa**** as often as I do. I don't know if your surgeon will provide you with additional binders, but I bet that you'll wake up wearing one after your surgery.

After two weeks I was told I could wear the Spanx type biker short garment that I bought in Target. Problem was I still had drains and it was awkward so I continued to wear the abdominal binder. I've since tried the Spanx and frankly I find the abdominal binder more comfortable so I'm just going to continue wearing it for the 6-8 weeks they want me in compression. I hate putting on the Spanx, I hate the pressure on my thighs and it's a pain to go to the bathroom but they are probably slimmer under pants. I find my binder doesn't show through my pants and I'm so skinny now that it doesn't matter.

Instead I'm spending my money on new clothes. Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

Thanks!  I will call my surgeon tomorrow and ask if they will provide me with an elastic binder.  I'm not worried at all what I look like because it's just temporary.  I would much rather spend my money on new clothes too.

My cg's were included in the price of my surgery. I actually wore mine longer than 2 wks- probably more like 6. It gave me a strange sense of comfort to wear it.

I don't think mine are included.  My insurance company is paying for my surgery so I guess I can't complain : )

Hi
usually when u leave the hospital ,you have on an abdominal binder that closes with velcro, they are bulky and not very comfortable. The reason u need 2 of them is cause thay cant go in the dryer and I washed mine every day so I needed a spare it is veryimportant to keep the wound area very clean. maybe u can borrow one from someone if u cant afford to buy one
www.marenagroup.com , try them out for price, I use them for all my surgeries. i hate to spend the money for them also but they are just another expense to having an abdominoplasty or any PS procedure
I had to wear my garment for the first 6 weeks but it felt so good on and I hear u get better results from wearing it so I wore mine for 3 months. some Drs. swear by  them & some say they r not necessary but just to be sure I wore mine for a long time. You really dont see your final abdomen result for about 9 months and I wanted to make sure that I got the best results possile as we all do. I also measured my belly every day so I know how the swelling issue is, I still do it cause ther r days when I still feel like a fat girl and I havent gained any weight and i think my belly is fat and then I measure it and realize it is all in my head
Good Luck Susan

You will see there are several schools of thought here on Compression Garments.  I got mine from www.marenagroup.com.  I truly believe that they are worth the money and if you can get one or two - you should.  I wore mine 24/7 for 6 weeks and then I wore for another 6 months daily while at work and at the gym.  It kept the swelling down and I had a seroma that it helped reabsorb.
After the 6 weeks I went to the whole body flexees.  They have a snap crotch for easy bathroom chores and they were very comfortable and kept my swelling to a minimum.
Think about it. It's an investment that I believe helped me achieve the best result.

Others have used the spanx.  They were just not as good.  The compression wasn't symetrical and I had no compression in the mons area.  The crotch opening is small and not comfortable.
