Somebody hold my hand PS on 12/17 and getting nervous

I am having Extended TT with the ancor cut on the 17th and I am getting nervous.  No one in my family wants me to have this surgery and the only help I will have after surgery is from my 18yr old son (who won't take out the trash when I ask) !  I am nervous and a little scared too.  Have many of you been able to take care of yourself right after surgery?  I am mainly concerned with the first week.  I am sure I will manage...I am a tough girl, but the first couple days scare me.

I have read on here how you all have made prepartions so  I am following suit.  Just wanted to vent.  I had support for all my other no PS surgeries but for some reason THIS ONE noone in my family wants to support...feeling a little alone.

Thanks for your ears...

Val,
I am right there with you girl! I am having mine on the 16th!! I am so nervous, I called my doc today just to tell them how I was feeling!
I am sorry about you feeling a little alone! Hopefully your son will jump right in there and be at  your beck-n-call  when he sees you after surgery and realizes you need him. All I can say (and I have been taken note from this board) is rest, get your protein in and take your meds that first week and I think we will be fine.

You are going to do great! And keep your head up, help will come along.
Keep us posted on how your doing!

Val - my sympathy is with you!  I definitely know what its like to go into a surgery with little help.

When I had my extended TT I ended up staying at my daughters, which was nice, but she was JUST pregnant and had morning sickness, had to work, etc.  She was a help, but I felt like I was imposing big time...Of course I couldn't ask her hubby to help with drains, etc.

My Bl/BA will be the same way.  Staying at her place but may not have a ride set up to/from the surgery center.

I'm staying with her because she's 30  minutes from the Dr's office and I'm 4 hours...

I know I couldn't have counted on my son (who was 20) to help me.  Really, the one area you'll need someone with you is for your first shower.  If he can just be home and outside the door if needed, then that will be ok.

Getting my garment on/off myself I don't know if I could have done the first few days.  Like you said - you're a tough lady and you can probably do it.  My Dr said I'd want to take it off to poo - but I didn't.. and made sure I didn't mess it.

I'm more than happy to talk to you about it via PM or on the phone if you'd like.

I have parents but they live a distance away and are old; they don't understand any of this and are against my having ps.  Thank you for your encouragement, just knowing others who have been down the same path and made it, is very helpful.  Just needed to hear some kinds words, so thank you!

I will PM you, have lots of questions.

I am sending positive vinbes ur way!! It will be fine. I was one of the fortunate ones that had a pain free, stress free recovery. I had the On-Q painpump and I honetly had no pain. I was driving myself 5 days after a full lowerbody lift. In fact Last thursday I was 3 weeks out and I went out dancing with friend saturday for her birthday. You r not alone feel free to pm me, e-mail me, hell call me if u like and when it gets hard I'll offer  you support. I had a little help but honestly my husband slept harder than me so I ended up calling him and him not hearing me so i would have to help myself up most of the time anyway. Nervousness is common, the day before my surgry i got nervous and called my patient coordinator and wanted to change from the lowerbody lift to just a tummy tuck. So she had me come into the office and talk with her and the dr and offer me reassurance that everything would b fine.

Mzhuny,

You are an inspiration and healing so well.  You give me hope.  I can only pray I have as easy a recovery as you.  Thanks for the encouragment and support.  I will keep in touch.

My first suggestion would be to get some kind of shower chair in there if you don't already have one. Taking off that compression garment for the first time can really make you woozy and you don't want to fall down in there.

My second suggestion is utilize your toughness, but don't go overboard with it. Now is not a time you want to push your body too hard. Will you be staying in the hospital the night after your surgery?

My third suggestion is stay on top of your pain meds so it doesn't get overwhelming. Also stay on top of your protein (I had 150 g a day) and your calories (your body needs about 1800 a day for optimal healing, is what my surgeon told me.)

You've got us here on this board, and please feel free to pm me at any time.

Thank you Shellymor,

I just called a place to get a shower seat.  That is a great idea.  I am not having a compression garment.  I was told it is some kinda wrap.  Do I need to buy my own garment?  I won't push too hard.  I plan to prepare my house as if no one is there except me.  I have two little dogs that I know my son will take care of at least.  I will increase that protein today too, thanks for that.
