Scar Treatment
I keep reading about scar treatment on here and on make me heal. i called my ps office because I am having surgery in January so I wanted to ask what I should purchase. I was told not to get anything for the scars, that they will heal to a fine line in a years time and that everything is a waste of money... I dunno what to do!
There are a lot of companies that are selling products that claim to improve wound healing, but I can't tell that I have seen any difference in my patients that have used them versus those that have not. In my practice I tell patients that if they want to use a product once the wounds have healed, it can't hurt. For patients that have thickened or raised scars following surgery, I prefer to use silicone sheeting. Although they do not know the mechanism of how it works, the is a long track record of success with this treatment. Best of luck.

I tried everything; nothing worked. I have big, fat, raised, red scars that the doctor is treating with steroid injections and later lasers. If you are prone to keloids, there ain't a lot you can do to avoid them.
According to my niece, a dermatologist, the best thing you can do for scars is keep them moist (she mentioned vitamin E and coconut oil) and massage them (to cause "micro" damage, which promotes collagen production). I did that too....no help! Imagine what they would have looked like if I did NOTHING.
