Three things that helped most.1) rented a lift recilne for one month from a medical supply company. They deliver and set=up and pick up after the month. I slept in for the first few weeks and just rested and relaxed alot in it. 2) toilet set riser. Buy it at a store like walmart or walgreens not too expensive 3) men's tank style undershirts to wear under you binder/compresion garment. They are made of cotten and softer on the skin. I almost forgot. Colace. Take it fathfully while you ae on pain med and drink plenty of liquids. Good luck. The first 4-6 days are rough but it is SO worth it.
I am just over two weeks out, and I bought a recliner, and only went to my bed for the first time last night. at a week out I tried to sleep in my bed and was hurting so bad in the morning. The recliner keeps you perfect for sleeping. I have also heard some people get the lift recliners to get up. It depends on how muchyou have to spend. I had to buy mine off craigslist! :D good luck!

I had LBL/Hernia repair and arm lift recently. You don't need the recliner - just a bunch of pillows to help you assume the lounge chair position - I use three behind my head, two under my feet and one each on either side for my arms. I used them to sleep each night in my own bed with DH and lounge on the couch in the family room. Some of these pillows were the inserts for decorative pillows that I happened to have laying around awaiting a craft project and I bought two new firm standard size pillows.
I agree - get a very long tank t shirt to wear under your binder. I bought mine at Target - they have a very soft cotton lycra blend. With the stretch I was able to place my bandages around my LBL wounds and used the T shirt to hold them in place instead of using tape - it was so easy after a shower to place the bandage and pull the shirt over it to hold it in place and then put the binder ontop. The T shirt protects your skin from the rough binder.
Get all those little chores done before you go for surgery = I don't know where my brain was but I forgot to clip my cat's claws and do the laundry the day before. I should have made a list because clearly I was preoccupied thinking about the surgery.
I had a ton of healthy meals waiting in the freezer so I didn't have to cook those first few days.
chapstick for your lips after surgery.
Good luck

First of all congrats. I had lbl on 11/11. I thank god for my recliner, it was so much easier getting out of it than the bed. I tried to sleep in the bed about 1 week out and i could not get comfortable. I used regular bed pillows about 6 of them. I actually had a speedy tecovery thanks to the on-Q painpump. No pain at all. I would suggest getting any bandages and gloves, also protein supplements ahead of time.
