TT or Panniculectomy
Well, it really depends on who is doing the surgery. A "panni" is technically just excess skin removal of the lower abdomen. Often (but not always) that means:
No liposuction for sculpting of the result
No belly button repair (some have the belly button removed...check on this obviously !)
No muscle repair
Limited pubic lift
Very low reimbursement to the surgeon, so often less attention to detail.
I periodically see patients who have had a simple "panni" elsewhere, who come back later wanting revisions. They are difficult once the skin has been removed. Most common problem is over-elevation of the pubic hairline.
So check with your doc and confirm exactly what he is doing....as I said, all docs define this differently and some may do more than others.
I refuse to do them except in cases where there is massive skin overhang.

that all makes sense and tells me that I had a TT. my doctor called it a TT, but others said it was a "panni" - how are revisions to TT if the person has lost more weight?

Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
I just had a consult last night you should do both. The Panni just takes off the lower stomach skin. If you get both they can lift you skin in the area of the pelvis and your thighs as well. Funny thing was I found out my belly button was in the wrong place lmao. I will warn you and I hope I am wrong they told me that the insurance company will approve it but they only cover 1000 of the procedure. So depending on how much they charge my consult was big bucks lol 12k.
Contrary to what someone else posted, a tummy tuck does NOT do anything for the thighs. The panni will only deal with the extra skin below the belly button whereas a tummy tuck will include extra skin above the belly button and muscle tightening. I had both done (but done separately because of insurance nonsense). If you have a lot of extra skin at or above your waist, you will probably not be happy with just a panni removal because it will leave you with a "muffin top" look.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Yep, a TT won't fix the thighs.
I had a procedure that the surgeon called a tummy tuck but was in actuality just a panni. Prior to the surgery, during several visits, we discussed what I wanted done: skin removal, muscle tightening, belly button relocation and most important to me, a mons lift. Just before going in to surgery the PS drew on my belly, and definately drew the cut line above my existing belly button.
So let me tell you I was surprised when I woke up and found my old belly button right where it was before. There was no mons lift, no ab tightening - he basically took off just the skin between the belly button and the pubis.
About a year later I had an LBL whi*****luded doing a true tummy tuck (by a different plastic surgeon), and what a difference!

TT won't fix the thighs but it will affect the way the look (from what my PS told me) When I went in for my consult he was pulling and prodding and showed me how it will slightly lift some of the thigh skin and change the way it looks... my thighs are ok so maybe that is why the change is noticeable? IDK - we will find out for sure in january!
Hi everyone I had a panni removal 6 months ago..well I loved the fact that the blubber was removed and it was 6 pounds of flesh,,my probelm is now I have a muffin top I HATE IT.. if i knew it would have looked like this I would have opted for the full TT but I didn't have the $$$ it's a real cost .. so bottom line is if you can get a full TT my friend went from size 16 to a 8 I'm a 12-14 but can't wear a 2 piece darn it..Best of luck to all..Despinasdream
