I'm about 12 days p.o. and still have my drains due to my complications (in another post.)  i'll be having my drains out this week, hopefully.  I almost feel like they've grown closed where they go into my skin and i'm nervous about having them out.

anyone with late drain removal?  tips on getting through it without being a baby?

i'm hopefully being released from the hospital today, but won't make my scheduled surgeon's appointment.

I haven't had any plastic surgery yet but a couple of things I would suggest are to take something for pain about an hour before you think they will be removed - with your doctor or nurse's permission of course!

Secondly, I would mention to the person doing it that you are nervous about the skin adhering to the tube and with any luck they will take the time to check this out and carefully pull the skin away first before just starting to pull it straight out.

Good luck - I'm sure it will be fine and you will be so happy to be drain-free!

Taking pain meds before is a great suggestion. Maybe you could rub a little neosporin around the entrance to help and soften the skin a little.

I had my last drain pulled at 6 weeks post op. It didn't feel any different than the ones pulled at 10 days p.o. No pain, just a weird sensation. I didn't take any pain meds before the last one was pulled out. Worst thing for me was cutting the stitches that were holding it in place. His nurse did it and used the big sissors not the small ones and that was a little uncomfortable.

The first time around it was 5 weeks, the second time around it was 3 weeks.   Gotta say the 5 weeks came out easier.

no pain for me, just weird feeling.  It couldn't hurt to take the pain meds like was suggested.  I think you are entitled to be a baby right now.  You have been through more than any of us!!

thanks- this is encouraging.  i had breast reduction surgery when i was 20, and it didn't hurt at all when the drains came out.  others have mentioned the pain, so i thought maybe i was missing something.

I've never had any pain with drains - even had one fall out all by itself. It does feel weird, though.
