What concerns do you have about plastics in Mexico?

I am having my plastic surgery done in Mexico, I was wondering what some concerns others may have had when it is clearly a more cost effective way to get the procedures done. I am not talking about the basics, such as board certification and patient testimonies, because those things must be verified, confirmed and checked up on. I plan to use Cosmed, Are there any out there who have had surgery in Mexico or even Cosmed itself, please share and let's explore this.

Blessings, Judi

I haven't had ps as of yet. Have had to postpone my lbl.

My biggest concern with going out of country is aftercare. I had my DS in the states , but traveled 12 hr drive for it.. My pcp manages my vit levels but I've been completely shunned by other surgeons in my area.
So what if something goes wrong after returning..would I be able to find adequate care?

Very good point. I have been corresponding with Cosmed and that was one of my concerns. I am a 3rd year nursing student so I think I would be able to recognize problems as they arise, You would need to plan your stay for surgery for enough days to accomodate any post op problems, as a matter of fact, they told me to plan 7-10 days. Afterwards, you would need to plan ahead with your PCP on what the plan would be should any problems occur. I live in northern Maine so I fully understand having to travel for medical needs. I had my GB 5 hours away, so every appointment I go to is a 10 hour round trip. My PCP also handles most of my post op aftercare (labs and things). It would be very important to have a good support system in place when traveling for any medical procedure. Of course anything that occured afterwards that was emergent, you would go to a local ER.

I had my surgeries in the states but my concern would also be aftercare. I was self-pay for my plastics. As we all know sometimes complications can arise well after the 5-10 days post-op. I didn't want to take the chance of having problems and not have access to my surgeon. I paid my surgeon a lot of money and I wanted to make sure he was readily accessible to me. I also thought about how as weight loss patients our issues are different that other plastic surgery patients. We often need revisions to our original procedures. I didn't want to face having to travel back and forth out of the country for any revision work that I might need. My surgeon sees me several times after each procedure and will follow-up with each procedure up to a year. He sees my results up close and personal and knows when a revision is needed. We just have a very good relationship by me being in close contact with him. It's just a preference for me.

if you r going to Cosmed. I have seen sveral people that had work from Dr. Quiroz and it wasnt very pretty , please do more research if u r having him.
I had my surgery in the states but most people that go to MX use Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey his work looks really good.
also if you have problem yes u can go to an ER here in the states and they will take care of you but depending what insurance you have they will not pay the bill if it is not an insurance covered procedure.
I AM IN NO WAY AFFILLIATED with him, just  that people on here seem to be pleased with him. I only get PS in the states 10 minutes from my home
Good Luck to you

I have come across two stories about negative experiences with Cosmed...I have been unable to contact either patient. Their profiles no longer exist. I have on the other hand spoken by phone and through email to upwards of 20 patients that are very pleased and would go back to him in a minute. I have heard good things about Dr. Sauceda as well. I thank you all so much for your input and if anyone is considering Mexico or Cosmed, get in touch with me, I have thoroughly researched and have several contacts for past patients, most of whom did travel great distances for the surgery. I just know that surgery in the states is definitely out of my reach and in researching Mexican surgeons, Dr. Quiroz seems very qualified. He is board certified in Mexico as well as the United states. He also specializes in weight loss patients and as a matter of fact, is expanding his practice to include Weight loss surgeries.

But I digress, I do have the same concerns about distance as you all do, however; if it is a choice between being able to have the surgeries or not, I think for me I will just make sure I have a good plan in place with my regular physician for any concerns post op. Dr. Q did tell me too, that he anticipates that patients may need revisions and that he does that free of charge (barring anesthesia and OR fees) That is pretty standard. Thanks again for your input.

My profile exists, and is public. Gracies, *****moved her profile, had horrendous work done by Dr. Quiroz and he didn't fix it. All of that is documented over on Plastic Surgery Journeys.

He left stitches in my body. Permanent stitches. They stick out, they hurt, they are a pain in the butt to deal with.

My arms are terrible. PM me your cell phone and I'll send you a pic of what they look like now, 2.5 years later. He didn't take off half the fat, and they still hang quite a bit. The scars aren't the best (and I am extremely fair skinned so scars don't usually show on me) and I have permanet stitches which poke out. I also have permanent nerve damage in the left arm so that it tingles and I have no feeling in  a few areas.

Care was pretty good, his anesthesiologist was good, but aftercare? There really wasn't any. People like Gracies received no help after the fact.

Also, there was a really weird case over on OH. A woman who was a big champion of Dr. Quiroz felt it necessary to go through another patient's file and post the information on OH. In the US, that would be a MAJOR violation. I know for a fact that Dr. Quiroz shows patients his computer files, because he showed me.

Think long and hard about going there. Even the people who used to champion Cosmed, like Vicki over on PS Journeys, don't anymore.

Oh, and as far as the free revisions minus the cost of anesthesia? He told Gracies he couldn't revise her, and he did that with a couple of others.
