I'm having my surgery on 12/15. Today I called the surgeon's office to get my note for sick leave. I told my boss and the office manager that I was having surgery on my back, b/c it's none of their business that I'm having plastics. I assumed, incorrectly, that my dr. had some sort of discreet letterhead, so that no one at my place of employment would know he's a plastic surgeon. ( My bariatric surgeon had discreet letterhead). They told me the letter they will give me for work states his specialty on the letterhead and that they cannot alter it in any way.  I work for a township and everyone and their mother will know about my surgery as soon as the letter hits personnel as discretion is not their strong point. I guess there isn't anything I can do, but I wonder if anyone else struggled with this.

Bring the letter from your plastic surgeon into your PCP and ask them to write the letter for you.  I did that for my sleeve - it worked fine.  My dr. copied the timeline on the surgeon note, and work took the letter from my PCP just fine...

I have had the same concern but feel much sorrier for you. I work for a huge corporation!

Wow, the PCP idea is fabulous.

Good luck!
