I would get a grabber to pick things up from the floor so you don't have to bend. It just made it easier for me,when you can't get to the floor thats when you drop stuff. My LBL was not nearly as bad as I expected. After the first week when the drains came out I could do a few things around the house and didn't need pain meds. Just stay positive and do not worry to much because you will be back to normal soon.

I started getting nervous as soon as I had my pre op appt!!  I am on day 5 from my LBL.  The only major pain was immediately after surgery and they got it under control within an hour and half.  AFter that I stayed on top of it.  If I am sitting still or laying still I feel no pain.  I only feel pain when I am standing up or sitting down.  Walking around is even okay. I am not taking any pain meds during the day and taking Loratab at night to make sure I sleep good.

The grabber is a must!  Have some easy meals or protien bars ready and on an easy shelf to reach.

Read this board alot because it helps you see what normal really is after this type of a surgery.

My LBL is this Friday. My DH was very sweet and took off time from work so we could go on a mini vacation so we could have fun and not think about the surgery.

Have you arranged to have help during the early recuperation period?
Pillows to help you lie in the proper position post op?
Pads or gauze available to place around any open wounds and the drains to absorb leaks? Planned for nutritional meals post-op when you need to eat well but won't be able to cook? Entertainment (books, DVD's etc.) to keep you busy when you need to rest?
Clean house, pet's nails trimmed, etc. - those routine things that you won't be able to do for a short while?

Thank  you all for your responses. I haven't really gotten nervous about the surgery yet. I have help lined up but I haven't bought any supplies yet because my date is tentative. I struggle with low iron so we r monitoring it closely and also the response from the insurance also determines how much out of pocket I have to pay!

Congrats on the date! I was more excited than nervous. I would say increase your protein now, stay away from vit. E, and keep working on your cardio and especially your leg strength to help you get up and down without too much strain on your incisions.

Keep up posted with how you're doing-
