Plastics ? for the guys
Just looking for information from the guys about what surgery they may have had after WLS
I am wanting to get some plastics, but not sure I can ever afford it.
If you had multiple things done, what would you consider the biggest bang for your buck?
If you don't mind sharing, what was your cost for the different proceedures.
Emotionally I'd like to lose the floppy moobs, but I'm sure that they would take more off of the stomach area.
Thanks
Scott

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I'm 4 weeks post-PS but my situation may be a little different. I had a hernia repair that needed to be done as well as a "revision" on a previous hernia repair (the mesh was now too big after my weight loss). Both of these were covered by insurance. I went ahead and had an extended abdominoplasty (anchor cut) done at the same time and paid out of pocket for it. The additional amount for the abdominoplasty was about $8200. That covered the plastic surgeon, the OR time for the abdominoplasty, surgery supplies and the anesthesiologist during that time. Insurance covered the general surgeon and everything during the hernia repair as well as my hospital stay. I got quotes from other plastic surgeons that ranged from $5000 to $11,000.
I'm still recovering and still a bit swollen, so I can't see the full effect. However, I *can* say that I'm thrilled that the panni is gone. So that was clearly my "biggest bang for the buck". We talked about doing the "moobs" as well. Mine are mostly skin and are mostly on the sides ("mudflaps") so I wouldn't need the full workup that some guys need. However, all of the plastic surgeons I talked with recommended doing that at a later time if I wanted it. Doing it all at once would have me on the table too long with the hernia work I was also having.

If you can only afford one procedure, go with the tummy tuck. Some insurance companies will cover it - but you have to jump through many different hoops. I had my tummy, man boobs, and arms fixed and couldn't be happier.
Having said that... it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and I have a high tolerance for pain. My RNY surgery was a jog in the park compared to Plastics! But that may also been because I had so much done at one time... There were a few days where I thought someone was stabbing me all over my body with knives 24/7. :-(
Also, give yourself lots of time to recover. I optimistically thought I would be recovered from plastics in 3 WEEKS. 3 MONTHS later, I am just not starting to feel like my old self again.
Good luck with whatever path you decide!

Thanks for posting your question as I am too looking into the future after WLS. I had my RNY in May and am already feeling frustrated with panni. I don't know if I can afford plastics anytime soon but would like to hear responses, feedback and advice from other guys that are or were in the same situation.
Greetings,
I have only had the panni but would have to think this has to be the biggest bang for the buck that you are looking for. Sooooooo nice to have the rolls gone. My WLS surgeon also does the panni which is actually closer to the adominoplasty as he also tightens the muscles. My doctor, Doctor Warnock in Whichita Falls, TX also does the panni. He is absolutely the best.
Your insurance may cover the panni if you can prove you have rashes or other medical issues. Other skin removals are much harder to get insurance approval for.
As far as pain, yah I had it but loosing the excess skin makes up for any discomfort. Tollerable pain.
Regards,
Jim
