bike riding after BL and Arms?

I have been planning on doing my breast lift and arms the first of Feb.  I am doing a Louisiana bike ride that will be 45 miles a day for about 4 days the last week in April.  This is actually less than the 65 mile a day bike ride that many state rides offer.

I just read the posts about the 5 to 10 lb restriction for 6 weeks.  Do you think riding a bike for a few hours each day would be okay by week 10?  Obviously I will ask the surgeon but I think this board would give me more realistic answers.

I'm training for a half marathon at the end of November and I had my LBL/BA on 9/14 - right in the middle of my training schedule.  I talked to the nurse at my surgeon's office about it and she said their patients are generally back to their pre-op workouts by Week 6.  Tomorrow I'll be at 5 weeks, so I really hope that's true for me.  I just started running again last week and I'm feeling pretty good so far.  I would think that unless you have some significant complications, by Week 10 you should be good to go.  Good luck with everything!

great news on your training!!  I have my LBL next Thursday and was wondering if I would be able to do a 5K (nice and slow) on Nov 26th but that would just be 4 weeks so I guess that might be pushing it! ha!

How much did you run last week?  Just curious?

You might want to check with your doctor.  I planned my surgeries right after a half marathon.  I'm not even thinking about training for another half until closer to Christmas.  There are a lot of deep sutres inside and the last thing I want to is to pull something during training or halfway through a course.

Returning to work is one thing, in most cases it's not nearly as intense as training for a race.

Some surgeons may say it's fine to train for a race less than 8 weeks after surgery, but yours may not.  It's always best to follow the protocol of your ps.

I'm thinking running early out is probably out of the question for me unless I just have an amazing recovery.  Dr. said I could start running again at 6 weeks...we will see.  Biking is much much easier on the body than running so I am crossing fingers that my bike trip will be okay....and its not a race, just a tour.  The bike thing will be 6 months after the LBL and 3 months after my BL so I am hoping that event will be something I can do.

But with biking you're also leaning on your palms for a long period of time.  So yes, it's easier on the body but your nerve endings may not be happy with you.

Oh you are right.  I don't have a bike that I hunch real far over on, but there is still plenty of pressure on the palms.  I wonder if 3 months is long enough?  I guess I could wait until the fall 2011 to do the surgery if that is too close.

Definitely talk to your doctor.  I had my arms done 5/27.  I'm not sure when I stopped having nerve tinglings.  I don't have any numbness now, but considering you'll have to train up until the race, it's worth having the discussion to see what he/she thinks.

I started with four miles on Tuesday (exactly one month out) because that was my short run before plastics.  I then did five on Saturday, six on Sunday, and four again today.  I had run ten (only once) a couple of days before surgery, so I'm trying to slowly work my way back up.

I can see Lisa's point though.  Everybody heals at a different pace and I do feel like I had an amazing recovery.  Even my surgeon says I sailed right through it.

So now I have a question for you.  Do you use GU when you're training?  And if so, does it work well for you?  And do you drink a lot of water with it?  I just used it for the first time this week and I didn't feel especially energetic, but that could be because I'm still recovering and I would have been really dragging without it.  Idk.  I was just wondering how other VSGers felt about it.

Thanks!
