Have you had this happen, and if so, how did you handle it?

I am beyond thrilled with the ps I had with Dr. LoMonaco in June. I had a lbl and ba/bl. I never try to hide the fact I've had either wls or plastics, and if people aske me questions, I"m always happy to share with them.

However, it's taking a new turn. People (women) want to see my scars, etc. I don't mind showing them to my friends, or those who are going through ps themselves, but it's a little unnerving to have women I don't know well at all and who've never been overweight ask to see the work I've had done. It happened recently at a professional workshop I attended, and a couple of folks who'd heard I'd has ps came up and were very complimentary. Then asked if they if they could see my scars. I was kind of dumbfounded and laughed it off with them as we were only on a short break, but this isn't the first time it has happened with people I hardly know and probably won't be the last.

I am a pretty modest person when it comes to displaying my body and all, but how do the rest of you feel about this?

I've had an elderly woman ask me when she saw the scars on my legs a lot of questions.  I was honest... didn't feel right messing with an old woman.

Aside from that I haven't had a lot of people asking to see scars and stuff.  I suppose my reaction would depend on how I knew them... a total stranger with no professional connection would get a "Oh... so you want to play I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours?  What do you want to show me first?"

They'd walk away stunned and somewhat embarrassed.

In a professional group of strangers - my response would be "thank you for the kinds words but I really would prefer not to take away the focus of the session/meeting by displaying my scars."

I've had it and I guess it doesn't really matter to me. I will either show them the scars o my arms by pulling up my sleeve or if I'm wearing short sleeves they can see it. Other than that I may show them the scar on my hip. I'm pretty open about all my surgeries and open about my results. It's not that I'm immodest but  the areas where I usually wills how my scars doesn't reveal much.

Wow, I hadn't thought this could happen but now that you post it I can. I can see some people are just really curious and others are just plain rude. If they need to see something like this, they can google and find tons of pictures - no need to share if you don't want to.

I like Lisa's response - keep it professional.

I guess I should figure out how I want to handle questions like this if they come up.

I'll show perfect strangers my new belly button LOL -- I think it's just a personal thing - I have no problems with it.  Just because someone asks for something doesn't mean you can't say no.  And saying no shouldn't make you feel bad.  Just say no, I'd rather not, but I bet you could find some before/after shots online if you google them.

I'm the same way, happy to share but hadn't thought about this scenerio.  I guess I better be prepared with some witty comeback that won't be rude but will politely shift the focus or something.

Hi, I totally understand. I was in line at a store and when I got to the cashier she says to me oh your arms look so sore what happened to you?  I just laughed and said plastic surgery.
I couldnt believe she had the nerve to ask.

I show my scars only to close friends and family, but I think if it was for a good cause, a stranger who has been obese and now need some encouragement to have a ps or something... maybe I'd show my scars. Other than that, I think I wouldn't show anything to a stranger, but mostly because I'm a shy person.

"No, thanks.  You can find pictures online."  I don't show my scars to anyone who hasn't previously seen me naked.  That's a pretty small list of people.  Loris
