Work out swell
I have swelled up quite a bit from working out (even just going on brisk walks) and the subsequent hot shower. But yesterday my trainer told me to stretch alot after I worked out and lo and behold, not only didn't I swell, some of the swelling I already had went down. I was having nerve pain in my thigh and buttocks) and that totally went away, same with some numbness in the buttocks and tightness in the abs.
Just in case it was a fluke, I tried it again today, this time I didn't wear compression even (it wasn't really on purpose, I had a mix up and couldn't get home before I worked out). Again, no extra swelling post stretching or hot shower.
I thought I would pass it on and see if it might help anyone else

nothing magic, just the normal stretching I used to do post work out, just much slower and more gentle (like 5-7 minutes instead of 2-3 minutes), I am really really tight because I ended up pretty much laying around for 5 weeks in a recliner or propped in bed. I used the pilates ring alot because I am so tight...I used to be hyperflexable, especially in the upper body. I am sure it will come back. Boy did it feel good and I feel great now still.
I told my personal trainer what you said about the stretching. He is also asking if you will share what type of stretches you are doing. He and I want to make sure I don't overdo the stretching. Can you give us a general idea of how many different stretches and the reps?

I dont really know the names for them, but they were all basic...no twisting. Hips, hamstrings, lower back, tricepts, shoulders, quads. With her she used the ring to stretch my torso by having me hold and she gave a bit of stretch. But I didnt have her yesterday or today and I did a laying core stretch (where you just lay on your back and stretch out far). That was a little too much even though I didnt do it far.
No reps, just 30 second to 1 minute holds. I think you could do any ones that feel good it you are careful. I must add I am over a month out, so keep that in mind. Its a good idea to ask your doc what they think.
