Does the surgeon usually give you one or do you have to buy them yourself? Also, are they the same as shapewear?

Compression garments are sold at medical/ surgical supply stores.  The differ from shapewear and are made for many types of uses.  I don't know about those for plastics but I have used them for other purposes.

If your don't learn what you want on this board several folks on the BAF have had plastics anf should be able to explain a few things.

Mine were included in the price of my surgery. They are different from shapewear in that compression garments are desgined to help prevent swelling and to help keep newly sutured areas in place so that they can heal. Shapewear is more just to control flab/fat and keep it in place. My compression garments were more restrictive than shapewear.

If your doctor wants you in one you will wake up in it. They remind me of ld fashion girdles. Shapewear works a few weeks later.

not all surgeons supply them, som include it in their price. Usually when u come out of surgery you r in a binder and they r not comfortable at all andsometimes bulky. Compresssion garments  are different then shapewear they have more compression they keep the swelling down and they male the skin ighter against your abdomen to adhere to the muscle better. my Dr. likes me to wear them at least 6=8 weeks but I wear them about 6 months for my best results. I buy them from
www.marenagroup.com  believe me they r well worth the money about 55.00 and u need 2 because you cant put them in the dryer

Check with your surgeon because not all surgeons provide them. I know some I consulted with included them in the cost and others told me where I could purchase them. There are lots of websites that sell them.
