My LBL I was stiched and then when I had a reoperation they used staples (I think he said because it would be looser and easier to access if need be).  Hated those staples, every once in a while one would bite me.  It wasnt painful really, just annoying.  But I could imagine 500 of those bad boys all around would be REALLY annoying.

I had a staple line when I had my back surgery with eighty of those little nippers...Not too much trouble with them biting me though...Could have been because they were placed up a wall of backbone...Not too much twisting and a wiggle room for them to get in a biting mode...I'm sure with the lbl that would be a whole different story...ouch..!!!

I had internal stitches and the outside was the surgical glue w/ steri strips over. I had no external stitches that had to be removed. I think I did have 1 staple in my back (I didn't even know it was there) and it was removed at the first check up 10 days post op. Actually for all my surgeries I never had external stitches that had to be removed.

Hi Sonya..Is there less chance of infection with the surgical glue..?

In my thinking, it seems that it would be, for the reason that it seems it would be less of a chance for bacteria to get into the incision...

Thanks alot...!

No, I didn't have any infections. I'm no Dr. but to me I would think that the glue w/ leave less opportunity for bacteria to get in the wound since it closed the entire surgical line. When You have stitches there are spots that are open or gaps (at least from the one's I've seen)

I also had internal stitches with the surgical glue on the outside. I think they use the glue to help keep the edges together while it heals up. It also seems to keep the scar thinner and there's no little stitch holes running along side the seam. It might help keep the site sterile too, but I'm just guessing.

I also had internal stitches and surgical glue on the outside. The only thing stitched on the outside were my two drains that came out at 7 days.
